lectricbassman Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Hello fellow anglers. I am recently a new member of BR but have been reading the forums for some time now and this is by far my favorite site on the entire web (except youtube when im watching bassresource videos). Now to the question. Is it normal to be consumed with bass fishing when first starting? Ive been fishing all my life but within the last year discovered bass fishing in particular. Bass, bass, bass, bass. Its all I think about and I cant seem to shake it. I want to be on the water trying out new spots, gear, and techniques. I want to know everything about this creature so I can be a better fisherman. I want to know about local weather and seasonal patterns. I want to know about all the new (and old) lures and how they work. Its like my brain is a sponge and if it has anything to do with fishing i soak it up. But most of all I feel antsy and anxious to get back on the water. I dont know what it is but it has taken over me. Is this normal and if so will it go away or get worse? 2 Quote
RSM789 Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Most likely it will get worse. I am 51, fished for bass for over 40 years and still find myself driving down the road and imagining if the areas off the side of the road were underwater, where the bass might be and what would be the best way to catch them. 4 Quote

Super User aavery2 Posted September 15, 2014 Super User Posted September 15, 2014 I wish I could be as interested in school as I am in fish Couldn't have said it better If you both are as interested in fishing as you appear to be, I assume someday that you would like to own a boat, and truck to pull it with, nice gear and the money it takes to travel to the lake to fish. Well school it what is going to provide that for you. Hard to participate in this sport without some sort of steady income, and minimum wage jobs don't allow for extras like fishing. 6 Quote

I kind of killed 2 birds with one stone. I took some of my extra student loan money from gettting my master's in Accounting , and bought my bass boat. 1 Quote
lectricbassman Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 Thanks for the replies. I have a good job and an awesome family which is where most of my time is devoted. I think that is part of my obsession, i hit the water every chance i get but it never seems like enough to scratch the itch. Keeping things in perspective, i will someday have time and money to devote to the sport. In the meantime ill keep on with what im doing... until my wife sends me away. 1 Quote

Stay after it, it will be over before you know it, then you will look back on it in about 20 years and think about how much fun you had. 1 Quote

Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted September 15, 2014 Super User Posted September 15, 2014 It'll probably get worse. You know how they say the average male thinks about sex every 7 seconds? I probably think about bass fishing just as much. When I wake up in the morning I think about where I want to fish that day. When I'm laying in bed trying to fall asleep at night I'm thinking about the fish I caught earlier or the one that got away. The one that slammed my jig 2 feet from the bank or that awesome topwater strike. I'll fish before work if I don't have to go in till later or after work if I get off early. I work with a guy that fishes so all day long at work I'm talking about this fish or that fish or a new pond that I found out about. My wife fishes too so when I'm at home were looking at pictures of our fish or surfing the internet trying to find some new spots. I didn't have much in common with my little brother so I got him a fishing rod for Christmas so we could have something to do together. I have 2 dogs. They both love to fish. I can't go to a department store without walking through the fishing section even if I don't need anything or have money for anything. 95% of my posts on Facebook are pictures of the fish I've caught. When I'm watching TV, I look for shows about bass fishing before anything else. If I'm not doing any of these things, then most likely I'm on Bass Resource reading the articles or browsing the forums. Consumed by bass fishing? You bet I am. 2 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 15, 2014 Super User Posted September 15, 2014 I don't think it's unusual or abnormal to be obsessed or very passionate about fishing or any other endeavor. I fish 7 days a week year round, both saltwater and freshwater, most of the time both venues in the same day. 1 Quote

DILLY07 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I've fished for years since I was just a kid. I fished for bass for 6 years and now am a tournament angler. Very competitive than before. Whenever I am at work, I think about fishing. Thinking of topwater, jigs, you name it. Im thinking about it. Every single day, I'm on bass resource lurking around, reading comments and learning. Everyday, I'm on Tackle Warehouse just hangin out on it. I work at 4 am til 1 to 1:30. Right after it, Im out on the Bass Hunt. One day, I bought my brother a bass rod and reel combo to start out with. He sure did got addicted. He wants to get into tournament angling but he can't. He plays NCAA Football. He'll text me, if Im fishin, or if I'm catching anything. Asks for tips, or whats this or that. Everyday, it's about fishing. On my facebook, everything if fulfilled with fishing stuff. Am I consumed with bass fishing? You darn right! Quote
atcoha Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Man, I know how you feel. If I had a nickel for every time I thought about fishing... Quote
