Jassch82 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I'm trying to figure out what knot is used most on swivels. San Diego jam knot, palomar, uni. Any info would greatly help. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted September 13, 2014 Super User Posted September 13, 2014 I don't use a swivel much but when I do I use the 16/20 or Pitzen. It is fast and strong. Quote
Crappiebasser Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I use a palmar knot. I only use swivels on c rigs and flukes. Quote
CDMeyer Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I do not use swivels but I am pretty good with knots. I would suggest the palomor, and or the improved clinch Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted September 13, 2014 Super User Posted September 13, 2014 I use swivels for things like spoons, inline spinners, and C-rigs. I like to use the San-diego jam, Palomar, and improved clinch. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted September 13, 2014 Super User Posted September 13, 2014 I prefer the palomar knot on swivels, knots that require you to wrap the line around itself are more difficult to tie when you have to deal with the swivel spinning. I don't use the palomar knot on anything that has treble hooks because I don't like passing the loop over them. It's my theory and I'm sticking to it. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted September 13, 2014 Super User Posted September 13, 2014 Palomar for me. Quote
MyKeyBe Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Trilene knot for everything. Does not matter what line I'm using or what I am tying to. 1 Quote
Jassch82 Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Thanks for everyone's reply. I'm going to try using a few different ones. I'm going to be trying C-rigs and flukes and that's what I am using swivels for. Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I've gone to the Uni for everything except line to line, for which I use the improved Albright, and Drop Shot, for which I use the Palomar. The Uni is quick, easy, strong and does not slip. I seldom use more that 4 wraps. Oh, and it does not use much line from my FC leader. Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Palomar for everything. A lot of people will say it is not a strong knot, but I don't have problems with my line breaking, and it's all I use. As for swivels, I will use a snap swivel on spoons, and a swivel about a foot up the line on spinners, and of course carolina rigging. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted September 13, 2014 Super User Posted September 13, 2014 I use the Palomar with braid and mono or copoly but with fluoro I use the uni. 5-8 wraps depending on line diameter. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted September 13, 2014 Super User Posted September 13, 2014 I use the palomar. Quote
Jassch82 Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 I use the Palomar with braid and mono or copoly but with fluoro I use the uni. 5-8 wraps depending on line diameter. 5 wraps for ?? Line 8 wraps for ?? Line Just trying to see where the cutoff is. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted September 13, 2014 Super User Posted September 13, 2014 No real cutoff as I'm sure we all have our own methods but my method is as such. #10 = 8 #12 = 7 #14/15/16 = 6 #20 = 5 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 13, 2014 Super User Posted September 13, 2014 I almost always use swivels, whether I'm catching bass or tarpon the knots are the same. Do some knots work better with certain types of line, I think so. I use braid and mono leaders almost all the time, my lines are 10-15-20# braid, my knot of choice is an improved clinch with 2 wraps at the end. On the leader side of the swivel is an ordinary clinch knot, the lure gets a double loopknot. Putting a bead on the tag end of the braid is a little extra protection. These knots will not fail unless not tied perfectly, being human I can make a mistake like anyone. Any "fishing knot" suited for the line you are using tied correctly is going to work well. The second part of the equation is your drag, a proper drag setting takes the pressure off the knot when using lighter lines, too a tight drag is your enemy not your friend. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted September 13, 2014 Super User Posted September 13, 2014 X2 on the Trilene knot. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted September 13, 2014 Global Moderator Posted September 13, 2014 If I tying braid it's allways a Palomar. Co Poly or Floro its allways SDJ. Rippin has the same wrap totals based on diameter as I do. Mike Quote
