benthinkin Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Hey all, Just was wondering what your go to swimbaits or swimjigs were. What works for different water conditions. What do you all recomend to buy. Thanks in advance! Quote
PersicoTrotaVA Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Keitech Swimjigs, Warbait Warblades. I don't really use swimbaits much unless you count swim'n'caffeine shads. Quote
mod479 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I become fond of the Dirty jigs finesse swim jig in black/purple with a penetration (blk/blue laminate) R.I. little dipper. I havent thrown many others at all, this was my first year swimming a jig and it worked out pretty good. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted September 12, 2014 Super User Posted September 12, 2014 I like the strike king swim jigs, white and black Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted September 12, 2014 Super User Posted September 12, 2014 I like the Strike King swim jigs. Bluegill is my favorite color and I use it almost all the time when I am throwing one. I will mix in a white one if I have dirty water and or dark cloudy conditions. I use three trailers. A single tail grub when I need to swim the jig slowly, as a grubs tail moves at any speed. When I am burning it in clear water, I like the Havoc sub woofer, and when I am fishing heavy grass, I like the Havoc grass pig. Color selection on the trailers is simple. I put a white trailer on the white jigs, and a green pumpkin colored trailer on the bluegill jigs. I am not much of a swimbaiter, but I have had success with the grass pig by itself, rigged on a 5/0 ewg hook with a tungsten weight pegged to the nose. The Havoc sick fish has worked well for me also. I fish those on a belly weighted swimbait hook. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted September 12, 2014 Super User Posted September 12, 2014 Lots of very good jigs on the commercial and custom market, you don't have to look very hard to find some great ones. I enjoy building my own, as I am learning a body of water, I pay attention to what the fish I catch are spitting up, what the small baitfish look like, I gather all the information that I can, are they feeding on shad, bluegill, crayfish, caterpillars, frogs, or something else. I then try to build baits to incorporate some of he same colors as the primary forage. I can change anything I don't like and make it my own design. I don't have to try to explain to someone else what it is that I want, I can see what changes look like immediately, and I can fine tune the bait to get exactly what I want. If you have the time and means to do this, it is something that is very relaxing, it is also very rewarding when a friend or yourself use a bait that you create to catch fish. You are only limited by your time and imagination, Oh, and money. Quote

NathanW Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Lethal Weapon II Swim Jig. In my experiance there are quit of few swimjigs on the market with the fatal fatel flaw of using a lead barbed keeper. This doesnt make any sense on a bait that you are constantly reeling and pulling through cover. Yes, it works fine if you superglue your trailer but who wants to deal with that if you dont have to. The lead barbed baits just dont keep your trailer put the way that the wire keepers do. Lethal Weapon II and a few others have the wire keeper. Quote
benthinkin Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 I checked out the keitech and got a pack. I really like their action. Holding out on the jigs till I find some. Thanks for all the help. Quote
mprestonSEK Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Revenge swim jigs are the best that I have found. Pick up the bluegill, shad, and chart/white patterns and you should be pretty well set. I would suggest using a Zoom swimmin fluke in either size as the trailer. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Another Dirty Jigs fan here, I especially like the "no jack" swim jig of theirs. I use 3 of the 4 varieties of their swim jigs. I use the California swim jig for deeper water, the no jack swim jig for basically an "all purpose" swim jig but mainly in thick grass, and the regular swim jig is also a "do it all" type swim jig for me. The only swim jig I don't use from DJ's is their finesse swim jig. I just don't see the purpose really as I've never had trouble getting great hook sets using the regular swim jig with the bigger 3X Mustad hook. I basically decide between the regular and no jack jigs depending on what color I'm needing that particular day. I have some colors in both jigs that I don't in the other. As for trailers I use a pretty wide variety, I'm really liking the Basstrix hollow bodied swimbait as a trailer right now though. Other favorites are the RI Skinny Dipper, Rage Menace, NetBait Kickin' B, Rage craw, etc. Quote
