papajoe222 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I find myself throwing more hard baits in the fall than during the summer or spring. Although I do use some plastics as well, they're ones I can work quickly. My most productive hard baits have been a single bladed, short arm spinnerbait that I can burn over the tops of weeds and then let helicopter down the edges. Shallow cranks and either a deep crank I can use to dig up the bottom, or a lipless crank stroked out of sandgrass or other weeds. Do you find hardbaits to be more productive in the fall than soft plastics? 1 Quote
benthinkin Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Definately during this time of year. My favorite is an xcalibur lipless crank with a rattle, one of my "go-to" baits. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted September 12, 2014 Super User Posted September 12, 2014 Do you find hardbaits to be more productive in the fall than soft plastics? Somedays, yes....................somedays, no. Top water, and shallow cranking seem more effective in the fall for me than deep cranking, but I have also had plenty of days in the fall where you would "think" a crankbait bite or something "should" be on, and you still have to resort to soaking a jig, or some type of plastic to get bit.. At the end of the fall, when the water temp falls into the low 50's/high 40's I have found the jerkbait, and lipless crank bite to be almost as good as the spring time bite on those baits. 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted September 12, 2014 Super User Posted September 12, 2014 I try to keep an open mind and do find myself reaching for the hard baits first but I always have a plastic rigged and a jig rigged because I had a lot of days when hard bait should have been the deal but jigs and worms turned out to dominate. One of the first things I reach for right now is a wake bait, and a buzzbait, some absolute pigs are going to come on one or the other. Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 12, 2014 Super User Posted September 12, 2014 Hmmm, noooope, don't see any difference :..........Oh, sorry guys ! For a split second I forgot we are in completely different places, cuz ya know, down here between the tropic of Cancer and the Equator there ain't no such thing as, how you call it ? Ah, right ! "Fall" that's how you call it. 3 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted September 12, 2014 Super User Posted September 12, 2014 I live in south Georgia and I still notice hard baits get killer when it starts cooling off, square bills and Lipless all day long! Quote
primetime Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I love the Fall because now I can easily throw Floating Jerkbaits and fish them in areas that I couldn't all year long. If I can somehow figure out how to throw a Hardbait in an area everyone else throws softbaits I try to do it as much as possible.... I am getting all my Bomber Long A's, Bagley's Bang O Lure's, Rapala Floaters, Red Fins, and some floating shad shaped lures ready to go with new trebles, dressings, and drilling holes for some shad scent to leak out etc..... NathanW Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Aboslutely I do. Fall, Prespawn and Postspawn are my hardbait seasons. I do get the deep divers out in the summer but the conditions dont always agree. Quote
GoDeep Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I love lipless cranks and DT6s in the fall. While I mainly fish hard baits in the fall, I will still throw a D Bomb on a TX rig or a biffle bug. Craw type baits work very well in the fall here in TN. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 14, 2014 Global Moderator Posted September 14, 2014 Like any other time in fishing, I always keep an open mind. They're more productive than during the heat of the summer for sure, but some days plastics and jigs are still the better option. Quote
ColdSVT Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 God yes! Jerkbaits, spooks, cranks, lipless, and oh yeah more jerkbaits Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted September 14, 2014 Super User Posted September 14, 2014 Sometimes yes, sometimes no as others say. Always carry them with you though. Quote
