I'm beginning to understand why alcoholics go to bars-to find people that are even bigger drunks than they are.  Thanks, fellas!  I feel better now.

I think it's more of an ebb and flow for me. I get into something, I stock up on the baits of that flavor that intrigue me, I use it all and get rid of everything but my favorites and reinvest that cash into stocking up on variants of said favorites.

Then I pick up another niche bait, fall in love with making it work and getting good at it and the cycle repeats itself.

It's a vicious cycle but I love it.

As long as I live I will still never have as much as the old ladies shoes and handbags....

I have more than I need and not enough of all that I want.

I have more then enough and have and still give stuff away. I have never been one to also need 9 colors of the same exact crankbait. I am not very interested in "normal" lures anymore really. I have more then enough of those and I know what works. Anything new I get now usually costs a bunch so it is not a bag or box full of stuff at a time. Not being able to find a lure or being on some kind of list along with the price tag also slows down to process.

Zoiks....I must be the only one here who is able to fight off this, bait monkey, and keep him at bay.   I probably only have between 40-50 baits TOTAL, and even then, I am at the point of needing to purge my collection.  Im no longer interested in trying this, and trying that.  Time to reduce my small collection even further to include only those baits and rigs that work best.  Simplification is a virtue.

(I currently have 28 bags of soft plastics for sale, posted on the flea market)

I am a shore angler, and just started fishing again late last summer, after not having fished for about 18 years.  So I entered into this new venture with a few points of understanding..

> Im on foot, so pack light.  No need to take anything that wont fit in my knapsack.  The fish will always be there.

> Baits are made catch fisherman, moreso than fish

> What baits work? all of them do.

> My collection of which baits works best, will already be limited by the shorelines in which I fish in.

> Dont go chasing colors.  If the fish are not liking the colors Im using that day - they will like them another day.

> Its not the bait that catches the fish - its the fisherman.

> Learn the fish first - then learn TO fish

> I only get to fish for about 2-3 hours at a time.  Not enough time to warrant a giant bait collection.

> My goal for fishing is to obtain the ability to assess the conditions of the day, and then be able reach into my knapsack, and pull out, the right bait to use.

> If I didnt catch anything, then either I was doing it wrong, or the fish were not there.  It was no fault of the bait.

> Catching more fish comes with gaining more knowledge and experience - not from buying more stuff.

> Your mind is a better tacklebox,

This mindset has served me well to keep the bait monkey away, without any loss of fish, or enjoyment.

But thats just me.

Nobody said you should "fight" it, buying lures is as fun as fishing with them, different kind of fun, but still, very fun.

Haha....True indeed.  But, be it as it may....I have a strong preference to not have an enormous amount of stuff.

Let's just say if I put all of my soft plastics on a pontoon boat, well, it would sink.

These kind of threads are a reminder of how bad the addiction is. To put it into perspective. This summer I picked up some more cranks. just for good measure. Just over 200 of them. Like 5 large 2 sided Plano guide series boxes full. It's a sickness. Which reminds me. I need to pick up some more soft baits.

Well in your defense, you're a bird of prey and if you don't get the fish, well... You just die. Totally understandable.

Like I posted earlier admitting there is a problem is the first step. Personally I have loved bass fishing since I was about 12? I use to watch Bassmasters with Bob Cobb as a youth and dream about catching the big ones like I saw on TV. As an adult I still remember those shows and what worked back then that I could not find or afford to buy. Now I have a 6 figure income so I can buy whatever the hell I want but still remember the nostalgia of the late 80's early 90's baits.ad as My weakness for about 5 year was jerkbaits and it didn't matter what they cost as long they looked good I bought 5 of them. Now I have matured as an angler and realize that I don't need to carry $2000 worth of baits that weigh 300lbs I catch more fish. With a family I  now and me being back in graduate school I do not have the time I once had to fish. So with that said I am still looking for baits that I had as a teenager that I would like to have again. I will post a WTB in the classifieds and if anyone has any of these lures I will pay top dollar or trade for them.

Women aren't exactly the best judges, closets and drawers full of junk nobody like them needs, all those rags they never wear, purses that either can't hold a cell phone or big enough to carry a corpse in it, shoes n' that kind of trash, we sick ? Yeah right !

I still don't see what's the "problem". I'm not in denial, I'm perfectly aware that I like to purchase tackle, the only real problem is having enough room to store it, dunno, maybe add another room to the house or something like that .......BIG room, for future purchases ya know.

Trust me, I've got plenty. I have enough to fill all the storage in 2 20' bass boats and still have several large containers full of boxes of baits in the garage. Heck, I'm waiting on 30 new 10xds to come in the mail from cabelas now!

With the exception of a good bucktail and spoon inventory I don't have a lot.  I buy when I need something for fill in, other than that I hate going in a tackle shop.  Some how I manage to catch and fish now and then.

Didn't count, but my hard baits probably number in the few hundreds. Soft plastics, I have enough bags to fill a large contractor bag. Tackle collection is just another way to enjoy the pastime to the fullest.
