FlipSide Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Ive got a few of most mainstream brands. The one Ive caught the most fish on is a Hart Bleeding Hart spinnerbait. Quote
PersicoTrotaVA Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I used to like Booyah a lot but stopped using them after some issues that were not model specific. I still have some Strike King ones that are my favorite to fish with, but lately I have been in love with Revenge spinnerbaits, love the bluegill colors. Quote
Heron Posted September 11, 2014 Author Posted September 11, 2014 Well I guess it all depends how you are going to use the spinnerbait. If you just cast it out and retrieve it straight back then there is probably less difference between spinnerbaits than if you bounce it off cover, drop it, slow roll it, etc. What I look for in a spinnerbait are the following: 1). a good (preferably US made) ball bearing swivel 2). a long shank hook 3). a somewhat flexible wire frame 4). a twisted loop (more durable than an R bend). If it has an R bend then I reenforce the bend with fly tying thread 5). a wire tied skirt (if it doesn't have that then do it yourself with wire) Brands I have used with success include Mann's Classic (Hank Parker) spinnerbait (some QC issues), Strike King (some ball bearings are sticky) and Booyah. I use the Booyah most often because they work and are consistant from bait to bait. The Top Secret spinnerbaits they make for Dick's are a great value. They lend themselves well to customization. If you make your own, then you can tailor make them to how you fish them. You eliminate compromises by making your own. Besides its fun! I look for the same in a spinnerbait. Except for the wire-tied skirt. I have not encountered any need thus far, for a skirt to be wire tied. Most spinnerbaits I find, and their components, are made and assembled fairly well to my satisfaction. Which brings me back to the point of this topic. The lines are blurred, or rather, most everyone makes a quality spinnerbait. So, you really cant go wrong from one maker to the next. So then from there, it just comes down to personal preference. Some manufactorers only make double willow or tandem willow (willow-colorado blade) spinnerbaits. So if you want a double colorado or a single bladed spinnerbait you might have to get out the wire cutters or the split ring pliers. I continually tinker and "improve" them (usually until they don't work any more). Smalljaw has lots of great posts on constructing spinnerbaits that you can also use to modify them if you feel the need or desire to do so. Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Freedom tackle is my favourite, war eagle, booyah and strike king are pretty good too. Quote

Been snooping around on Lurepartsonline.com and that is adding some good motivation. Quote

Good choice, you will then get them exactly like you want them. Its very satisfying to catch fish on a lure you made. Its sort of like fly tying. Have fun! Quote

BadBassWV Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I had a couple of BPS brand and Megastrikes in a small spinnerbait box. After fishing them I noticed the Blades were rusted on the BPS. And there was rust on the Megastrike, to be fair I think the rust on the Mega strikes were from the cheap BPS.. I've got 3 compact spinnerbaits coming from Seibert, I think I will fish exclusively the Seiberts from now on. Thanks Mike for a great product. Quote
