Djf3864 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 That's some deep stuff Blue. I guess I can relate to it; fishing is relaxing, enjoyable, and one of those sports that you can put as much or as little effort in to while still gaining a feeling of accomplishment when you catch a fish. Quote
starcraft1 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Great find. I've fished some lakes that it was hard to keep your train of thought on just fishing. Lake Shasta, Trinty, & Whiskeytown are just three that come to mind in N. Cal. Shasta I have to go for a week prior to a tourney just to get the rubber necking out of my system and get get down to fishing. If you haven't been their it's worth the trip. Just for the sites alone. Fishing = lots of spots, not much on size. Quote
Super User geo g Posted September 9, 2014 Super User Posted September 9, 2014 I fish for relaxation. There is nothing better then an early morning on the lake, with a good friend, and a tug on the line. I fish at least 5 days a week. Sometimes from the bank, and some days from the boat. Being a high school administrator, two hours in the afternoon, and any tension is completely gone. It is a form of therapy. 1 Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 9, 2014 Super User Posted September 9, 2014 There are several small lakes and many ponds near my home, those are where we go to catch fish, to my everyday lake we go fishing and I prefer to go fishing than to go and catch fish. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted September 9, 2014 Super User Posted September 9, 2014 I fish so I don't go on killing sprees. Seriously, I get so sick of people in general I need time by myself to hit the reset button and if I go too long without getting out there I go nuts- I get irritable, ornery and stay in a pretty pisspoor mood n general. The same goes for skiing, but in that respect it's tenfold- if there's a storm hitting and I'm not on a chairlift, I am one bitter, despondent person haha it's pretty much to the point where work doesn't want me there if it's snowing. I need my pursuits to feel like a balanced individual. I can't just work and work and work without getting away and doing my thing at least semi-regularly. Even my gf is like "d**n, you sound like you could use a few hours on the water" at times, bless her soul. 1 Quote

Super User Catch and Grease Posted September 9, 2014 Super User Posted September 9, 2014 I love the people you meet fishing, Yes there are many jerks that fish but most of the people you encounter are enjoyable to be around and great to have a conversation with. Quote
einscodek Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 theres so many reasons for me why even bother explaining.. that general statement doesnt even cover them all maybe this: I LOVE IT Quote
RSM789 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I realized that every time I go fishing, I see or experience something new or unique. Be it catching two bass on 1 cast, watching a raccoon mess up a sleeping homeowners docked boat or snagging into a rod & reel that looks like it has been at the bottom of the lake for a decade, every trip brings something new. I also have noticed that I never run into anyone in a bad mood while in Bass Pro Shops (the real "Happiest Place on Earth")... Quote
The_fisherman Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Recreation. Good way to get away from every day routine. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted September 10, 2014 Super User Posted September 10, 2014 Yep, the great outdoors has been a big, big part of my life... I have worked outdoors, & played outdoors, doing many, many different recreational activities ..... I have been blessed to have experienced so much... And for that, I am most thankful.... Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 10, 2014 Super User Posted September 10, 2014 I'm happy as long as my rod is bending, the bigger the bend the happier I am. Quote
Driftb Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Fishing gives me an opportunity to interact with nature in a very basic primal way. It feels right for me. Coincidentally, some of the best fishing happens in the most unspoiled places. So when I am fishing, I am in a beautiful place on this earth, experiencing the flow of nature. What could be better? Quote
Verisimilidude Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I've been thinking about that question a lot for the past couple of years. I am a huge biology/nature nerd. I think fishing is a way for me to interact with the concentric nature rings in a way that is hands on. I get to "be" the baitfish. I get to sample the bass population. I can't think of another sport that allows me to be this close with nature. Quote
Misfit95 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I like the challenge. No matter how long you've been fishing, there will always be times you come home having not even gotten a bite. You always strive to learn more, perfect your technique, and improve to the point where you will always be successful. That is the challenge of fishing. And there is ALWAYS more to learn. I fish because it keeps me busy. I am a person who will basically fill any free time I have with fishing or another hobby (but usually fishing) just because I hate sitting around and not doing anything. I generally don't like to just sit on the couch and watch TV (that's for AFTER I go fishing lol). I also just like the bragging rights. One can argue that it's selfish to brag about a 5 lb bass you caught, but honestly, if you put forth that much money to buy your gear, boat, and learn everything you know to go out there and catch her, you kind of deserve to brag A LITTLE. lol Those are all the reasons I like to fish. And contrary to what most people say, I actually don't find fishing relaxing, but maybe that's because of my personal style of taking it very very seriously, and running and gunning to different spots and what not....Only time I find it relaxing is when I'm drifting lindy rigs or trolling from my kayak. Other than that, I'm pretty serious when I'm out there. Quote
NDH Fishing Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Cause I love it. And because all your worries wash away. For me anyway. Its hard to describe, I just love it. Quote
