Ive fished lake erie several times over the past few years, but towards the end of august im usually in hunting mode,

My plan this year is to come up and fish the 25-28 of this month.

Are the smallmouth up shallow and active at this time?

Usually not because the water is still too warm & they are still deep.

I was up there in late june and middle of july this year and was slammin 4-5 lb smallies in 6 or less fow, surely there will be good smallie fishing in the same area at the end of this month

If you know the answer why ask the question?

In Mid-July 5 pound Lake Erie smallies in such skinny water is fairly unusual.

That sounds like one heck of a magic spot.

The spawn is done & over with by then & they generally don't even make beds that shallow there.

Why do you think they were up there ?

This has been an odd year. One day you catch 60 fish in 8', none over 3#. Go to the same spot the next day and catch a bunch of 4 and 5# fish.

If I told you how deep a buddy was catching them yesterday, some would call me crazy and some would say "I know where they were"!

z7master167 are you fishing the bay or the main lake?

Fishing in Erie out of the Buffalo area, and fishing it quite frequently, if you know where to go based on weather patterns, you can get 5-7lber's in 5 fow and down in 30-40 fow during that time frame you are looking to fish.

Both but i dont venture too far out in the mainlake. When i was catching them up there earlier in the year, i was catching them on 1.5 squarebills, we was probably catching 40-50 small mouth and probably 80-100 largemouth a day, i dont know why they were there, but that stretch is about a 1/2 mile and they were absolutely all over it, i just trolled up and down the bank all day

The smallie pattern in the bay in the spring is prespawn & spawn. Not much smallie action in the bay in the fall. You need to find them out in the lake.

Dwight message ----"So what suggestion does the disc jockey have to the man's question. To my knowledge you have never visited or fished this system in PA waters. You once suggested someone fish the rock piles in PIB. There are not any. All the rock structure is in the main lake. This is not Dale Hollo"

Step 1 quit speculating

2. It's not 1983 get your self a smart phone

3 download navionics invest the money it's worth it (even if u have a hds 10)

4. Find the rock pile u think don't exist

5. Quit thinking your educated guesses are facts

6. Be happy I brought u out your dippers

Here's a pic o obvious rock piles the don't exist in the bay lol just saying

That's a Classic ~  Should we frame this one ?

So Dwight, I guess routinely catching 30 pound bags of brown bass gets you No Respect here At All.

Nice.

Since now I'm 100% sure you're calling him out....

Step 1 : Look at Dwight's smallie PB compared to yours (hell, look at his top 50 smallies compared to yours)

Step 2 : There is no step 2 when you lose at step 1
