t4bama Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 Hey JGBassinAL, living in North Alabama have you heard of a store in Moulton name Shelton's? If not you need to check them out amazing deals on fishing tackle. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted September 10, 2014 Super User Posted September 10, 2014 Anyone ever notice that it seems like cheaper rods are harder to break. Or is it just my imagination. Hootie 1 Quote
t4bama Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 Your probably right *Hootie bad thing that doesn't say much for G loomis rods , no it just happens. I'll tell you a rod I really like that I never anyone talk about is Okuma Concept C3-40x I purchased a few of these rods really like them and that's the ones "I " broke called Okuma up they told me to send them the butt end off the rod and 20.00 to ship my new one. masterbass Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Anyone ever notice that it seems like cheaper rods are harder to break. Or is it just my imagination. Hootie I agree, I broke 2 rods doing nothing more than casting and they were higher priced rods. I guess there is a price to pay for lighter, more sensitive rods. I've never had an issue with my cheaper, heavier rods. Quote

Their deal on the Chronarch Ci4+ is crazy but you have to go to the store to get the deal on it. Quote

Hootie Exactly what I was gonna tell kikstand earlier when he wanted to know why people always talk about their rods breaking but he uses cheap rods and never breaks them. Quote
Arv Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 How does this make it out of the factory? Quality control at its finest.Isn't that just a reverse spiral wrap? Quote
kikstand454 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Exactly what I was gonna tell kikstand earlier when he wanted to know why people always talk about their rods breaking but he uses cheap rods and never breaks them. Well this is fabulously great news for me then! I guess ill stick with my "cheap" <$150 rods and not have to replace them every 2 years. ..... What a bargain! Bring on my next crucial! Quote

JGBassinAL Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Isn't that just a reverse spiral wrap? No Duckett doesn't use a spiral wrap. The first guide is the only one misaligned. Quote

I went by there yesterday, My buddy Ryan that works there likes the Chronarch but they had such a great deal on the Abu Garcia REVO Premier I bought 4, best deals anywhere. Quote

CarolinaBoy4Life Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I was looking at buying a couple Duckett Rod's about a year ago and I just heard all these story's of break's and quality control problems. I went with BPS Carbonlite rod's to fill out my lineup and honestly I love em. Haven't had one issue out of them even the micro guide versions I have. Also if it break's BPS customer service is very good in the experiences I've had with them. Best rod's out there of course not but for the price point I feel it's darn good. I too was pushed away from Duckett due to peoples complaints. Quote
DTack Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Well, each one of us has our favorite company's and ANY rod can break. The local boat marina store here quit selling Dobyn's rods because he was sick to death of replacing all of the broken rod's. (any one wanting to call the store and ask the owner can PM me for the store name, The owner will tell what a nightmare of broken rod's) I'm sure that doesn't make any one not want a Dobyn's though, just as any other rod, they can and do break. The Duckett Rod's have a 20 year warranty and they stand behind that so I would say they believe in their rods. Also you're saying that the Duckett rods are nothing more than a carrot stick? OK, so that would mean a Dobyn's is nothing more than a Powell Max rod too then right? If you skip out on Duckett rods, you may be missing the best fishing rod you would have ever owned. The rods are well worth the money and some of the best on the market but you need to decide that for yourself, do not take my opinion that they are really great and do not take the other guys opinion that they are super bad, make that decision for yourself and just enjoy Bass fishing. We get it, you don't like Dobyns. It's loud and clear. I don't blame you, I would be upset too if customers really loved a company so danged much that they had to come out and praise it like crazy (honestly it would get annoying if you hated that company). I'm not here to come down on your opinion. You're exactly right, any rod can break, they do break. They break for many different reasons, no rod company is perfect. You may feel like people are saying that but no one is. May I have you post the store name please? I would like to check what stock they ordered of the GEN 2 rods and if there were certain models that were breaking, that would likely be a lot of drop-shipping to the store. Quote

Could have been the GEN 1 rods in this situation, and he quit carrying them before the GEN 2 came out. Heard a lot about breaking problems on the GEN 1's but have not heard much at all about a GEN 2 breaking problem. Quote

SenkoGuru Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 DTack, I don't take the bait any more on the Dobyn's, so you guys can chill out, I could care less. Any way you ask for the store info and I sent it all to you in a PM. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted September 11, 2014 Super User Posted September 11, 2014 No Duckett doesn't use a spiral wrap. The first guide is the only one misaligned. Two years ago, Boyd talked about spiral wrapped guides. They were testing them. I bet "John Q. Publc" didn't get it, and they won't be released. Who knows? Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted September 12, 2014 Super User Posted September 12, 2014 Ravens/Steelers are not letting me down tonight. Quote
