Super User roadwarrior Posted January 11, 2015 Author Super User Posted January 11, 2015 Well, now that was quite a game. CONGRATULATIONS! 1
Super User Sam Posted January 11, 2015 Super User Posted January 11, 2015 The NFL rule that sank the Cowboys: "If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete." I thought it was a catch until I found this rule and now agree with the refs. Rough game. Love my Packers but think the Seahawks will take the day next weekend. 1
Super User flyfisher Posted January 11, 2015 Super User Posted January 11, 2015 Yeah, it was a catch by the eye test but not by the rule book. Guess there is such a thing as karma......funniest thing i saw was what the lions tweeted out.... https://twitter.com/lions 1
Super User F14A-B Posted January 12, 2015 Super User Posted January 12, 2015 Denver has struggled for a few weeks now, My question is will Peyton retire? He looked great first 8 or 9 weeks but has looked tired as of late. I hope he plays on!!!
Super User flyfisher Posted January 12, 2015 Super User Posted January 12, 2015 Peyton is not a good playoff QB......he looked old out there the past month or so. Too bad you can't employ the same technique as Popovich and rest starters in the regular season to keep them fresh for the postseason.

Feels like the end is near for his stellar career. But HEY!!! Bills land Rexy! WOOO HOOOOooooo... 1
Super User Sam Posted January 12, 2015 Super User Posted January 12, 2015 Three very good games this weekend. Four Hall of Fame quarterbacks face off next week. Hope the next three games are as entertaining as the best three games of this weekend.
Super User flyfisher Posted January 12, 2015 Super User Posted January 12, 2015 you are calling Wilson and Luck HOF QBs after three seasons, interesting..... 4

Super User FishTank Posted January 12, 2015 Super User Posted January 12, 2015 Not a big Cowboys fan but thought Dez made that catch. Hate to see games decided by calls like this. Anyway, go Colts.
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted January 12, 2015 Super User Posted January 12, 2015 Go Pack! Go Colts! How I relish the thought of Tommy Boy throwing another 'I'm taking my ball and going home' fit.
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 12, 2015 Super User Posted January 12, 2015 Turnabout is fair play, a reversal of a call is what helped Dallas advance to the GB game. Not saying Detroit would have won but they were driving, the game momentum may have changed. Also Dez Bryant was not called for a penalty being on the field without a helmet and not being involved with the play.
Super User aavery2 Posted January 12, 2015 Super User Posted January 12, 2015 First of all let me say that I don't have a dog in this fight, my team is the KC Chiefs and while they had a good season did not make it to the playoffs. So I have been watching the replay of this over and over and still can not understand how this was not ruled a catch. Yes I have read the rule and heard the officials explanation of the reversal of the original call that it was a catch and down inside the 1 but I don't agree. Now before you get to riled up, I am aware that my opinion means little but I am still going to put it out there. As I watch this play develop the coverage is good, but Bryant out leaps the defender and clearly has both hands on the ball above his head. He lands with both feet in bounds and then moves the ball from over the top of his head to his left hand takes at least two steps, then reaches out with the ball in his left hand and arm to try and break the plane of the goal line. In my mind the reception was made as soon as both feet hit the ground and he made a foot ball move taking two steps towards the end zone. The fact that the ball came loose when he hit the ground would then be irrelevant because we all know the ground can't cause a fumble and his knees were certainly down. Great game, come down to the wire with a contested play being the difference. I don't *** the position of the official who made the call, and I applaud his courage, but being able to watch this in slow motion from multiple angles, I think he negated one of the best catches under pressure this year.
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 12, 2015 Super User Posted January 12, 2015 The ground can't cause a fumble but that's after a catch has been made. Bryant fumbled the ball as he hit the ground before crossing into the endzone, he then secured ball after he crossed the line. According to the rules the pass wasn't completed.

What about the two or three steps he made towards the end zone with the ball in his left hand?
thunderballs Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 If you watch the play in real time, the catch, steps, and the fall to the ground all happen as one motion. Meaning he was falling down as all of that was happening. According to the rule the player must maintain possession through the ground. If the ball would have hit the ground and he didn't bobble it, catch made. However it hit the ground and he lost control, incomplete pass. Also people will argue the steps. His momentum was carrying him in that direction which means any steps he took were incidental.
Super User flyfisher Posted January 12, 2015 Super User Posted January 12, 2015 The rule is pretty clear. If the receiver is on his way to the ground he must maintain control throughout the fall to the ground. If the ball hits the ground the ball cannot move after it touches the ground or it is not considered a catch. The refs made the right call but the outrage should be more towards the rule.

I'm tickled to death that green bay is advancing, HOWEVER, I will say that this rule is garbage. If Bryant would have made the exact same catch but was going out of bounds it would have been a completed catch and all over sports center for an amazing athletic display. The call worked in my favor, but I also am a firm believer in "let em play" sports.
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 12, 2015 Author Super User Posted January 12, 2015 The situation comes up in every game and this is why the rule is so specific.
Super User aavery2 Posted January 12, 2015 Super User Posted January 12, 2015 At any rate there should have been around 30 seconds added back to the clock that they missed also.

"He caught it, but he didn't caught it" kinda situation. Also, the Colts won, which was a surprise. I kinda wish the Broncos had won. I miss Peyton, and I think we really screwed him in my opinion. I would've liked to have seen them go all the way this year. His health just wasn't where he needed it to be this week.
Jd_Phillips_Fishin Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 If I was Manning I'd retire... new coach coming in and new offensive coach coming in, best for him to step away
Super User F14A-B Posted January 13, 2015 Super User Posted January 13, 2015 If I was Manning I'd retire... new coach coming in and new offensive coach coming in, best for him to step awayDel Rio may be entertained for a head coaching position as well... Aaron Rodgers has been limping thru the past few games as well and he's far younger than Peyton, if Peyton can recover, he can & will still play great QB...
Jd_Phillips_Fishin Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I know he can still do it but he would have to learn a whole knew offense, which is something I don't think he would want to do at this stage of his career.
