boostr Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 What Power and action rod do you use for Rattle Traps, and the like. I know its a treble bait, but isn't a Medium Moderate rod to soft to jerk these guys thru the weeds and grass? Quote
CDMeyer Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I try and use either a M or a MH soft rod. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted September 7, 2014 Super User Posted September 7, 2014 Go with a MHM. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted September 7, 2014 Super User Posted September 7, 2014 MHM all the way. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted September 7, 2014 Super User Posted September 7, 2014 I like a M/F 1 Quote
Grantman83 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Mhm if I can. With the 1/4oz I don't mind using a medium Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted September 7, 2014 Super User Posted September 7, 2014 MHM... Like said above Or, bigger traps and such I like a HMF action Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted September 7, 2014 Super User Posted September 7, 2014 Mod Fast or Fast action for me. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted September 7, 2014 Super User Posted September 7, 2014 I like a MHMF graphite rod. Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 7, 2014 Super User Posted September 7, 2014 I don´t have a crankbait specialized rod, I fish cranks depending upon bait weight and cover with M - MH - H Fast common everyday rods. Quote
GoDeep Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I use a 7'6 mh moderate crucial crank bait rod. I usually throw traps in the 1/2-5/8oz range. Once TVA drops the lake levels to winter pool, the 7'6 let's me bomb them out from the shore. Quote
ABW Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 MH moderate fast... best of both worlds. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 8, 2014 Global Moderator Posted September 8, 2014 I like a 7' M/F when I'm popping them through grass and have very little problems with fish tossing them or pulling off. 2 Quote
boostr Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 What type of line are you using? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 8, 2014 Super User Posted September 8, 2014 #12 Sunline Super Natural (monofilament) Quote
boostr Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Obviously a 7" H/F with braid isn't a good choice. I would get bit, but they would spit the hook once they jumped a little. One of my rods broke at home... good excuse to get a new one. Quote
boostr Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Wouldn't mono be a little too stretchy when ripping it thru the weeds? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 8, 2014 Super User Posted September 8, 2014 No, coming through weeds is not an issue in my mind. For the most part "stretch" comes into play with single hook lures where you must drive a hook into the bass' mouth. With treble hooks we generally use a sweeping motion and the fish hooks itself. 1 Quote
boostr Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 I like a M/F What line do you use? Quote
DTack Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I want a rod with a softer tip that does eventually "shut off" at some point around halfway down the blank. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 8, 2014 Global Moderator Posted September 8, 2014 What type of line are you using? I use 14lb Mustad Thor. No problems ripping it free from the weeds. If you bury it up bad enough you can't rip it loose with that combo I don't think it matters what setup you're using. 1 Quote
