What Power and action rod do you use for  Rattle Traps, and the like. I know its a treble bait, but isn't a Medium Moderate rod to soft to jerk these  guys thru the weeds and grass?

I don´t have a crankbait specialized rod, I fish cranks depending upon bait weight and cover with M - MH - H Fast common everyday rods.

I use a 7'6 mh moderate crucial crank bait rod. I usually throw traps in the 1/2-5/8oz range. Once TVA drops the lake levels to winter pool, the 7'6 let's me bomb them out from the shore.

I like a 7' M/F when I'm popping them through grass and have very little problems with fish tossing them or pulling off.

What type of line are you using?

Obviously a 7" H/F with braid isn't a good choice. I would get bit, but they would spit the hook once they jumped a little. One of my rods broke at home... good excuse to get a new one.

Wouldn't mono be a little too stretchy when ripping it thru the weeds?

No, coming through weeds is not an issue in my mind. For the most part "stretch"

comes into play with single hook lures where you must drive a hook into the bass'

mouth. With treble hooks we generally use a sweeping motion and the fish hooks

itself.

I want a rod with a softer tip that does eventually "shut off" at some point around halfway down the blank.

I use 14lb Mustad Thor. No problems ripping it free from the weeds. If you bury it up bad enough you can't rip it loose with that combo I don't think it matters what setup you're using.
