Squirmin Wormin Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 We all been fishing or started too fish, and have asked you when you caught your pb. But this came to me just now , where did you catch it ? was it caught in a weed bed, along outside of weed beds ,flooded timber or out in open water. I caught my pb out in open water . where have you been catching most of your fish this year ? mine have been outside edges of weed beds mostly. Even though fish other areas as well. Quote
Super User geo g Posted September 7, 2014 Super User Posted September 7, 2014 Most of my best fish this year have been early or late in the day, on the outside edge of a weed line next to a drop off. Once the sun gets high that changes considerably to the thick stuff, either floating cabbage or deep in pad fields. Bass use the cover as sunglasses, and the weeds provide Oxygen. Quote
kikstand454 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 My biggest bass so far this year was in 12fow on a hump next to a 30ft ledge. Caught on a bomber fat free shad in sexy shad color. 8.46# Numbers wise. .... flipping to heavy heavy grass has been the ticket. Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 My PB came fishing a topwater over a weedbed. Numbers have come ripping hair jigs through weedbeds. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted September 8, 2014 Super User Posted September 8, 2014 During this time of year most of my bass come from edges of weeds early in the morning... Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted September 8, 2014 Super User Posted September 8, 2014 Everything 5+ this year has been from cover in 3-6 feet of water. However, probably 80%+ of my fishing this year has been to cover in 3-6 feet of water. Quote
tatertester Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 LOL Good One! Makes perfect sense. Quote
hatrix Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 My PB was caught on a black and blue jig with a trailer of some kind. I don't even remember but I am pretty sure it was a hack attack jig. It was right next to a over flow drain and in about 5 or 6 FOW. It was late Feb or early March and insanely cold. I had to keep switching hands to hold my rod and casting was unbearable with wet braided line. Having your guides ice over also blows. I was actually right about to call it and then picked up slowly and the rod was heavy. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted September 9, 2014 Super User Posted September 9, 2014 My PB (5 pounds) slammed a chartreuse spinnerbait about 5 feet from the bank where the water dropped off from about 1 foot to 4. I actually thought I was snagged on a rock but then the snag started to move. 90% of all my other fish (most of them in the 3-5 pound range) have been caught on jigs off of logs, laydowns and brushpiles in about 2-6 feet of water. Super User gardnerjigman Posted September 9, 2014 Super User Posted September 9, 2014 My PB was caught on the outer edge of a beaver dam, using the deeper tunnel to ambush. Came of a pb&j jig and craw trailer. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted September 9, 2014 Super User Posted September 9, 2014 All my nice fish this year were caught around pads. Quote

Super User geo g Posted September 11, 2014 Super User Posted September 11, 2014 My personal best was caught at Loxahatchee Perserve, in 2 foot of water, at high noon, on a sunny day, in Febuary in the early 90's. The fish was activly chasing bait, I threw a watermelon seed weightless fluke into the mix, with my lightest rig, a Shamano Spinning reel with 8 pound test. It was quite a fight. The fish went 11.4 lbs, took photos, weighed, and measured, and released in good shape. Quote
basshead1 Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 My pb(no scale) was caught under a mixed patch of weeds(palms, cat tails, ect) on a little tiny 3 foot island with about 3 foot depth on its banks that dropped down to 10 feet really steeply. I was using a 10 inch Rage Tail Anaconda w/rattle and if I remember correct it was watermelon w/red flake. My 2nd best was caught in the same spot but with a 6" Berkley Power Hawg w/rattle. Quote
wisconsin heat Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 #1 3lb 9oz On a flat with fallen timber all around, stained water, opening day 2011. Willow leaf spinnerbait. #2 3lb 9oz Near the bank, not much cover murky water. Opening day 2012 Colorado spinnerbait. #3 3lb 15oz (smallmouth) Right at the base of a d**n in really fast water, cranking a Rapala DT Flat 7, reeling as fast as i can to give it action and it bit almost at my feet, and i just swung it on shore Quote
