hatrix Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Lots of people love them. They fish only fenwick casting or spinning and I assume it includes the elite tech. I only know the spinning and its top notch and probably the best you can buy without paying way more. I have a HMG that is fairly new like this year and that's also been nice. It was the M/H and is a strong stiff rod for spinning but handles great for when I need any kind of power with spinning. Quote
Hogsticker Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I think he's referring to the new rods that were just released at Icast. Quote
Grantman83 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 They are Replacing the smallmouth series I believe. A lot of people swear by them. The fenwick aetos is a sweet stick so in sure these rods will be awesome for the price Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 They aren't available yet until 9/9/2014 I believe. Quote

MG3370 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I ordered a 7' MH version of the Elite Tech Bass casting and it arrived Friday. I haven't been out on the water with it yet, but man does it look and feel nice. I have been using one of the elite tech smallmouth rods on a spinning setup with a patriarch for finesse applications like a shakey head and it has proven to be my favorite rod. I knew when I saw the bass version coming out I had to pick one up so I plan on putting a BB1 pro on this one. It feels as if it is even higher quality than the smallmouth, the reelseat looks really solid and the guides look quality as well. Quote
Loop_Dad Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Has anyone used these? Just wondering your thoughts it is a nice looking rod. Not these, but Have the two Smallmouth 6'9" MH. It looks like the new rod have very similar reel seat so I thought I comment here.... I like the rod. Very well balanced in my hand, better than Crucial (form grip one) I initially like the feel of the reel seat, but I had some issue with it. The problem was the cork under the reel seat is just tad too long for my 200 sized shimano's. I didn't notice initially. When I get bigger fish, I would notice the reel's movement. I was keep tightening, but basically the front cork which holds the nut was hitting the cork under the reel seat, so it wasn't really tightening the reel. Eventually the screw thread glued to the rod came off while I had a good fish on and I lost the fish! The fix was easy. First I just glued the thread back on to the rod. Then I trimmed the front edge of the cork under the reel seat for about 1/8 inch, so that the front cork can come back a bit more for secure tightening. I also felt the cork under the reel is too slippy. I carved a grove on it slightly so that my middle finger has something to grip on. If this was to replace the smallmouth rod, I wish they've changed the reel seat to the one like Aetos. Quote

Glad to hear that it is higher quality than the smallmouth. I would be happy if it was equal in quality to the smallmouth, but I'm not complaining! Must resist buying one... Quote

The problem you had was with certain reels but I was told by Fenwick directly that the reel seat on the new Elite Tech Bass has been fixed to accommodate reels with a longer foot. They addressed the length of the rear grip also by making it longer. I was also told that the new series will have a similar feel to the smallmouth series but should be even more responsive due to a the same blanks only made with graphite of a higher modulus. Quote

That might actually make my problem worse, depending on how they did it. If they simply extended the middle cork section to accomodate reels with longer foot, that's a bad news. My problem was the reel seat was not able to become short enough to hold my 200 size Shimanos tightly. I modified the reel seat so it can accommodate reel with shorter foot. I was quite frankly surprised that Shimano 200 reels being so popular reel. Op if you can bring your reel to store who carries this great, I would do that if I were you. Or you can modify the reel seat in worst case scenario. And it was pretty easy. And don't get me wrong, I still like these rods. Quote
