Has anyone seen this on store bought ammo? I've had a few boxes if pdx1 in the past and none were this dirty. Is it anything to be concerned about?

Is that just dirty? Does it wipe off?

I don't see anything to worry about but that is odd.

I got some of it off but it's in there on a lot of them.

Just read somewhere else it could be compound they used to polish the cases but jeez. I wouldn't expect this premium defensive rounds.

I've sent them a message through their website but there wasn't an option to attach a photo. I'm waiting for a reply.

I have never seen anything like that with Winchester stuff but sometimes manufacturers add a sealer to their primers to keep moisture out. Usually it is like nail polish not the gunk yours show.

Hang on before you shoot that, were those in a sealed box? Those almost look like someone's crappy reloads?

I've never seen premium loads look that crappy...

Actually these were off the Miami bass pro shops shelf. Still have the receipt too but they don't accept returns on ammo. The box I grabbed seemed to be the least tampered with. None of the pdx boxes have tape or any type of aeal on them.

You could always bring the ammo into Bass Pro and show them at the lodge what it looks like, they may be willing to exchange the ammo for another box.

You can call Winchester about it, they are normally pretty good about working with customers when there are concerns with the ammo.

I'd call olin winchester 800-356-2666 and ask them.  Its probably polishing compound but for what they charge for those I'd rather be safe then sorry.

Called and they told me it was cleaning media. Didn't ask for any pictures or anything. I gave him the lot number and the guy assured me they were good to go. Guess I'll fire the dirtiest at the range and see what happens.

I'll still look into other defense ammo like the hst or gold dots.

Hello,

That stuff is on all nickel Winchester I've ever seen, to a greater or lesser extent.  I always assumed it's sealant.  If its polishing compound then that's a bad assumption on my part, but bottom line is that it never hurt and is fine to use for defense.
