My Favorite Jig Combo! Whats Yours?

Here is one of my favorites.  A Big O Brush jig in Blue bug with a Blue Bug Rage Craw.

3/8oz NSCB Brush Jig w/ either Rage Craw or Sweet Beaver trailer

I've done well lately fishing 1 to 1-1/2 oz Dirty Jigs brand grass jigs and/ or Strike King Hack Attack with the Strike King Rage Craw as the trailer.

1/4 oz seibert Arkie Pumpkin gold orange with paca chunk , working very well in my shallow lakes and ponds.

Worm Body on Jig

To help keep your pig in place and to stop it's spinning and getting twisted,  the pros cut a little piece of a finesse worm and put it on the jig's hook so that it touches the skirt.

Not much in size. Just enough to cover the back end of the hook and it allows you the space to attach your pig.

Give it a try.  Use a finesse worm the same color as your pig or as close to it as possible.

If you are using rattles that swing from the jig you put the rattles on the jig first then follow with the cut finesse worm.

 

Trailer to Use

Depends on two things:

1.  Water temperature.

2.  Color of jig skirt.

 

Water Temperature

In cold water you want the pinchers to move slow.

In warm water you want the pinchers to move fast.

Rage Tail trailers have fast moving pinchers.

Other brands have slow moving pinchers.

Experiment to find the ones the fish like that day.

 

Color of Jig Skirt

If you are using a black and blue jig go with a black or blue based pig.

If you are using a brown colored jig go with a brown based pig.

Some guys like to mix and match with other colors so experiment.

Some guys like to dye the tips of the pinchers lime or yellow. Experiment.

 

Keep a written log when using a jig and pig to memorialize your successes and failures. You can use this information in the future.

The green banner above with the "home, tools links, etc." has a fishing log you can print. Find it, probably under tools, and use it.

Then start studying the logs over the winter when you have nothing to do. You will see the patterns regarding your jig fishing.

 

One more suggestion. Speak with your parents about having you go out with Teddy Carr on the Potomac or Rappahannock River. Teddy is a great guy and an outstanding guide and you can ask  him anything you want about bass fishing and he will give you his honest input.  Teddy works for Outdoor Adventures. You may be able to meet him or the other guides this January at the Richmond Fishing Expo. Mark your calendar for the Richmond Fishing Expo. Look it up on Google. I know I will try to post information about it when it is published in December or January.

 

Also, please try to find a copy of Denny Brauer's Jig Fishing Secrets. This is a great paperback that can  give you a lot of information on jig fishing. I have an autographed copy. Great read if you want to learn about jig fishing and have a good book by your side this winter.

 

Now rig up a jig using at least 25# test braid; color the first three feet or so of the braid from the jig towards the rod tip with a black Sharpie; take your needle nose pliers with you; use a spray scent or some MegaStrike on the pig; dye the pig's tips with JJs Magic in the color of your choice; and go out and start throwing that jig and have some fun experimenting.

Well, Sam thanks for all that!!!! But the thing about the richomond thing is in the middle of School and i'm always about busy other wise so that would cancel me going with him. Inplus, I wouldn't want him to see my durango reel for spinning with a pole thats not made for the spinning reel. My baitcaster isent so bad. But thanks for the info anyway.
