Heron Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I for one have not yet gained an appreciation for of that style of bait. But for those of you who are a fan of the Ika...What say you about this comparison? Quote
travis23 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I have used both. The Hydra definately tears faster. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted September 6, 2014 Super User Posted September 6, 2014 I use both and the Ika catches more fish. Ika falls faster a little tougher casts better. Hydra and its skirt is more fluid jellyfish like when twitched falls slower. Hydra isnt as tough where the skirt meets the body this area tears easily(ika not all that much better though), hydra body seems to hold-up better. The Hydra body doesnt degrade, start to decompose, like the Ika body does with prolonged use. The skirt of the Hydra takes the use of JJ's Magic better for coloring, Ika skirt not so much. I use both will continue to use both side by side just think the faster falling of the Ika gets it more reaction bites darts off bottom better with pop quick twitch. Hydra slight edge in attracting pike. Being the skirt lasts longer on the Ika and the body lasts longer on the Hydra I will combine these pieces to make a Hydrika A similar bait to these to also check out is the Keitech Salty Core tube more of an actual tube shape but solid like ika/hydra. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 7, 2014 Super User Posted September 7, 2014 The Ika is my go to bait. I have not fished any similar baits or knock offs but I can't imagine it being any better than the Ika. They hold up well. If one end tears, I can put the hook through the other and still catch fish. I have caught everything from bass, catfish, bluegills, crappies, walleye, wipers, smallmouth and lake trout. Quote
annexation Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I like the ika better; the hydra works, it just doesn't cast as far. The casting distance you get off a weightless ika is part of why I love this type of bait so much. Keitech's salty core tubes will cast even farther, but they're pricier. Quote
TorqueConverter Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 The Jackall Cover Craw is probably worth looking at too. It's not durable at all but is designed to glide backwards, has caw pinchers on it and it weighs a ton. The Trigger X Hodad glides backwards too and has a lot of action but doesn't weigh anything. There's more and more baits coming onto the market designed to glide backwards. If you don't like the Palm Tree/Fat Ika then try others or jsut wait until a better bait spawns into existence. Quote
