Need To Pick Up My First Heavy Action Rod Soon

Hey guys so I have not yet picked up a heavy action rod for heavier texas rigging, jigs, swinghead jigs, ect. I would like it to be from 7ft-7'3. So far I am interested in the Kistler Pro Series as well as a ***. Which would you recommend, and if there is another rod in this price range you would also look out I would love to hear about it. Thanks!

The Black ***'s I would look into the MH.  Have the 7'6" and have fished jigs up to 3/4oz without any issues nor does it feel over powered.  So the H action may be a bit heavier then you would like.  But still love the rod.  One of my favorites to fish.

Check out the Quantum Superlite and Tour Edition rods at ohya.  7' MH Superlite 1/4 to 1-1/2 oz.  The Tour Edition has the same model plus 2 others...7'4" Hvy Flippin 1/4-2 oz. and 7'6" H 3/8-2 oz.

 

I've got a 6'10" Heavy in both lines.  I like them.  No experience with the others, tho.  Excellent prices and excellent rods for the money.  Both modes are well built.  Sensitivity is pretty good.  I know I lost any credibility I might have had on this site with that statement.   Most on here will laugh when the see "Quantum" and "excellent" or "good" in the same post.  Mine will really launch a 1/2 oz. jig plus trailer.

 

I wouldn't have known about these rods if it weren't for "smalljaw".  He has turned me onto a couple different rods that are well worth their price.

I would look at the Cabelas Tournament ZX topwater. Heavy and 7'3". Especially when they go on sale for $69. The rod feels like a medium heavy and the Winn grip is second to none.

Cabelas also is carrying the *** line now.

What's nice is if you get either of those two rods and don't like them you can exchange them for a different rod or your money back.

I like the Okuma but I would like to be able to get my hands on it before buying it and I also dont have a place I can see the Quantum rods at the moment. I am really leaning towards the ***. I just need to go look at the different powers and see which I want.  Thanks again!

I've decided to get the 7'3" MH for 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz jigs, and some moderate cover frogging. 7'3" for the little extra casting distance over the 7'1". I've only used Powell Rods, and they are a little underrated comparted to the Omens. The Powell Heavy is an *** MH. If you're gonna be using bigger jigs than what I am I'd go with the heavy power.

Thanks for the reply! Mostly I will be using it for fishing 10-20ft ledges with jigs and texas rigs. They will likely be 1/2oz jigs and 3/8oz texas rigs. I will also use swinghead jigs some, but no where near as much as I will be using the normal jigs and t-rig. Sounds like I will probably go with what you and gulfcaptain said and try to find a mh. Personally I just purchased a duckett micro magic 7 MH a week ago and Its awesome, just awesome.  The 13 rods are really good based on what I researched.  I went to a tackle shop today and held a *** today and it was really nice, but I wasnt crazy about the handle and trigger placement.  I read, researched and read more before purchasing my micro magic and I will tell you there are alot of good rods out there, its best to just go and look at them and hold them so see what feels the best to you..

Have a Green and Black ***, think I'm going to have to splurge around Thanksgiving and pick up an ***. So far everything I've gotten from *** has been nice quality.

For that application, I have been using a Fenwick 7'3" H Elite Tech Smallmouth Rod.  This rod has been discontinued but the are coming out with a Bass Series that has an improved version of this rod.  I use it for all of my heavy stuff.  It works great for everything from Crankbaits to heavy jigs.  It has a great warranty and their customer service is second to none.

I've been using a falcon bucoo micro 7'3 heavy/fast and I love it. I use it to fish the slop and a little frog action now and then. It's lighter than my avid and nicely balance and light as well.

Are you sure it is the Elite Tech Smallmouth rod?  I've been on the Fenwick web page many times over the past 3 years, and have never seen this rod listed.  When was it made?  I bought my first Smallmouth rods when they first came out....3 springs ago if memory serves me.  At least I think that was shortly after they came out.

You have gained credibility with me, lol.  I use a Quantum MH 7' 1/4-2 oz rod for my targets that average 40-50", just love this rod.

I personally wouldn't use a heavy rod, doesn't fit my fishing personality.

those two lines are quite a bit difference in price.....Black $99-129, *** $239-259.  More like a $100+ difference.

Not to be a stickler, but heavy is a power not an action and it is important to understand the difference.     There are a bunch of good rods in the 150 and under price range, handle as many as possible and find one you like.
