Super User buzzed bait Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 Anyone have any experience with the yellow braid? Just wondering if you are able to see the line a little better in order to notice any line movement on those weaker bites? I've been wanting to try it, but would hate to spend the money on it and hate it.... just wondering if there is any noticeable difference for you in your ability to see the line or even if you feel you got less bites because of it? would likely be some power pro hi vis yellow. thanks for the input. Super User Oregon Native Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 Love it.....on all spinning reels right now with a fluro leader. Any reel I use a leader I will use the yellow....I'm a line watcher and feeler. Tight Lines Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 Ditto - PP yellow, along with lines like 832 'neon lime', Fireline 'flame green' and Nanofil hi-vis chartreuse are all very good lines for line watchers. I've used them all regularly. I think the next easiest color to see for line watchers is pure white. Beyond that, the reds, greens, and smokes are the hardest to see well in most conditions, IMO. -T9 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted September 5, 2014 Author Super User Posted September 5, 2014 next question for anyone using the hi vis yellow, do you ever tie straight to lure or are you generally using a leader? i don't fish a ton of super clear water so when fishing "green" or "moss" braid i tie straight to the lure, in fact i've never used a leader.... just curious what the consensus is, thanks! The yellow power pro is great, definitely easier to see. I did an experiment on a clear quarry i fish. Was using 10lb yellow pp and cut my flouro leader off. Threw a jackall flickshake on straight yellow braid in absolute clear water, you can see the bottom in 20ft of water on a clear day. Nailed a nice 3lb bass, dont think he cared what color the line was, lol. In clear water im gonna have a leader on 99% of the time, but if i was in a jam i wouldnt hesitate to fish straight braid... Absolutely 100% better than typical green for visibility. I use Yellow PP on all my reels + leader. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 You can always use a sharpie to color the last 7' +/- Quote
cjam93 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Just to chime in with everyone else high vis yellow power pro is amazing! I also use a leader. I have not tried it without a leader, but some of the knots for tying on leaders are so fast I havent seen a reason yet to try it without one. I personally always use the J-knot. Also I have been trying out fireline tracer braid recently and I like it a lot as well. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 Man, I would never go there, but I fish with some guys that fish nothing but Hi Vis (yellow). These men are VERY successful. The fish apparently don't care a thing about line visibility, but it's still too ugly for me. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 X-2 on the sharpie for the first 7ft or so. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted September 5, 2014 Author Super User Posted September 5, 2014 wow, i'm actually surprised at all the absolutely yes repsonses! still would like to know if there is a major disadvantage to fishing it without the leader? Quote
Super User Darren. Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 wow, i'm actually surprised at all the absolutely yes repsonses! still would like to know if there is a major disadvantage to fishing it without the leader? I look at it differently. It is expensive, and I don't want to lose large amounts of it to snags, which I've had plenty of. So the leader compensates for all that, breaks off, saves my "investment" in braid. I've fished it straight, and straight but colored the first few feet with a black Sharpie. Have caught that way, but really prefer the leader route. 1 Quote
bass1980 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 This year I experimented with high vis yellow on my wacky weightless senko setup. Tied straight to senko with NO leader. Well I caught a lot of fish and actually more than my buddies. Not saying it'll catch more fish, but in my waters bass didn't care about the line. I think when that Yama is wiggling down they just drool and don't see anything else lol. The lakes I fish are semi clear but not 20ft clear. Quote
jignfule Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 As stated earlier, the sharpie is a good idea. My sight has taken a hit the last few years and hi vis has been very helpful Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 I tried some hi vis line a few years ago. I did catch fish but the small blue gill kept pecking at the line. It got annoying and I never went back. Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I'd be more worried about the noise than the color. The actually noise braid makes going through the guides seems to be a problem in a lake that I fish and several ponds. Even with really long leaders to suppress the noise down, mono or fluoro will out fish braid 5:1 or more. Just my experiences with braid, so take it for whatever it's worth. Quote
long island basser Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I use the yellow pp on a few setups, I love it. I color the first 5 to 10 feet with a black marker also, and sometimes use a floro leader when I feel necessary . I also color 1/3 of the line on the spool with black marker, so when you cast and your line is out it is even easier to see the slightest twitch this way. Quote
supreme Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I use Hi Vis Yellow 15 lbs Tuf line XP on all my spinning gear and I have caught a lot of 4-5 lbs bass with straight yellow braid with sharpie on about 12 feet of line. With the Tuf line XP I can feel the bullet weight slide up and down my line. This feeling is new to me after using sufix braid for the past 5 years Quote
DelcoSol Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 832 in white here. I think they call the color ghost. I just started it this year and really like using braid on a casting reel . The fact that I can now see the line move is an advantage as well. I do use a leader though. Quote
LunkerFisher Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 i use 20lb 832 in lime green on my main spinning setups, and i have 30lb yellow power pro on my medium power baitcast setup for wacky and weightless senkos. love the visibility for the slack-line techniques. for the texas rigs, jigs, and frogs, and reaction baits, i like to use moss green so i can get away without using a leader in the thick stuff.
