Squirmin Wormin Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 i've fished all times of day , morning, noon, dusk, and night. which time or times have you actually did better catching your targeted fish or just too fish? i do better at dusk and at night times . not that you cant catch the fish your after at morning or noon. i don't know the times you fish, but i think you get more and bigger fish also at the times i mentioned, dusk and night . what's your time pref ? or don't really have one and just go whatever time it is. your opinion, and does it play a part in your strategy for your targeted fish? Super User Choporoz Posted September 4, 2014 Super User Posted September 4, 2014 I fish when I can. Whenever I can. I haven't managed to revolve all the rest of my life around when I think I'll catch bass. Yet. That said, I tend to find that 11AM to 2PM can be painfully slow. I've caught some of my biggest fish in that window, but, for me, numbers aren't generally found there. 1 Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 4, 2014 Super User Posted September 4, 2014 Most of my trophy fish were caught between 1 and 5 PM. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted September 4, 2014 Super User Posted September 4, 2014 What ever time I can. Around this time of year in south Georiga I like to be on the water by at least 7:00am and fish untill 12:00 unless I'm doing good... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 4, 2014 Super User Posted September 4, 2014 The biggest bass are caught between 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. 1 Quote
Nuffsaid23 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Around 6-midnight are really fun where you can catch numbers and lunkers. It's also cooler and when you're down here in Mississippi, that's a win. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted September 4, 2014 Super User Posted September 4, 2014 The biggest bass are caught between 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. any science behind this statement? just curious if i should start targeting to hit the ramp at 9:30 and call it a day around 2:15? Quote
Fishing Cop Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I prefer between daylight and noon. It is just more peaceful. Quote
Super User geo g Posted September 4, 2014 Super User Posted September 4, 2014 In the brutal South Florida heat and humidity, I fish 6:30AM to 11:00AM, and 4:00PM until dark. In winter its heaven, and I'll fish anytime. Quote
PondHopper96 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I like early mornings before the sun rises! It's just so serene! And who doesn't love that topwater bite?? Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 I fish when I have time to fish, but I feel like I miss out (no science to this) if I'm not on the water before the sun is up (unless it's cold, then the fish don't do much until mid day) Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 This is my time of the year. From now till about the end of Dec. I do a lot of fishing. We start having the bait runs and the fishing can get real hot. When the temps start moderating a bit the bass will turn on as well, at that point it's the ocean every morning, bass in the PM and again before sunset. Been advised I may need surgery or some kind of therapy on both shoulders, no way in the world would I do this until January, I won't miss the fall action. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 any science behind this statement? just curious if i should start targeting to hit the ramp at 9:30 and call it a day around 2:15? Over the years this question has come up many times. As a specific example, Fish Chris has documented at least 83 DD bass, most of which were caught in this time frame. I think Raul has made this comment and it applies to me, too. Maybe we will get some more members posting their experience. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 1. Crankbaits. 2. Flipping and pitching plastics. 3. Topwaters. 4. Jigs and pigs. Once again, it depends on the time of year, water temperature, body of water and the pattern found that day. Quote
Djf3864 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I prefer the first half of the day; sun rise to about noon time, maybe 2pm if the fish are biting. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 Morning, Noon & Night ~ When I went hasn't been anywhere near as crucial as Where I fished. A-Jay Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 My preference, 8am to 2pm. Those are the hrs my boy is in school and I have time to fish. But I have no problem fishing all day any day or at when I have a free time which isn't too often. Quote
Todd2 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Between work, kids, sports, etc. I fish when I can. My preference is early morning but last the weekend I was fishing a main point mid afternoon that was getting hammered by waves from rec boats and jet skis. Add in some wind gusts of 20mph and you can imagine my pain. I couldn't really fish plastics so I slow rolled a heavy spinnerbait and caught my biggest of the year and another one broke me off. Point being...you might have to adjust but anytime on the water can be good. Quote
FrogFreak Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I fish whenever I can. If I am able to pick the time I like best it would be an hour before sunrise to about 10am and then second choice from about 5pm to and hour after dark. Ron X2. same here Ron. I spend the time in between eating and napping. What a life! Quote
hatrix Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 The biggest bass are caught between 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM I totally agree with that 100%. I know for a fact for some reason I have caught a lot of the biggest fish in that time frame for whatever reason. You can kill them early them it gets slow and slow and then you hook a giant one. As for time of day night time might be the best and for the best odds at a good size one but I like early morning. You can see somewhat maybe or soon you will be able to and that always helps and its usually cooler out. I can't see anything at night and if your like walking a bank casting along it in the pads with a frog or something is way hard for me even if you can cast with good accuracy. I am not even sure where it will land half the time and there is a good chance it could be the bank or something if I am trying to get close. Quote
frogflogger Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 any science behind this statement? just curious if i should start targeting to hit the ramp at 9:30 and call it a day around 2:15?I don't know if there is science to back this up - but in my 5+ decades of bass fishing it has been true for me and many of my friends - "Dr. Pepper time" we always called it. Talking about big fish not numbers. Quote
Bigboy28438 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I have my best luck in late afternoon. I have just started fishing at night with good results on a black buzzbait Quote
