Super User tcbass Posted September 3, 2014 Super User Posted September 3, 2014 I need to be able to open the hole where the depthfinder wires go in to pull these old ones out and put the new ones in. However, all I see is these two tan knobs. I know they are the heads of screws on some of the boats screws and when you turn those they loosen and tighten the screw, but when I turn these ones they just keep turning and turning. I'm not sure that they are the heads of screws or just covers. This is a 2000 Crestliner Fishhawk. Are they supposed to pop off? I don't want to pop them off and break them if they aren't. Quote
HardcoreBassin Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Do the knobs actually connect to anything? Or are they just covers that lead to where to screws are? Did you try popping one of them out? Quote

HardcoreBassin Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 From looking at the pictures, and not actually being there, it looks to me like they are just fillers for the holes. If you try to pop 1 off, the screws will probably be under them. Unless there are nuts/bolts holding the frame from the underside of the helm. What kind of boat is it? I'll see if I can find anything. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted September 3, 2014 Super User Posted September 3, 2014 There should be some kind of fasteners behind the dash, and something under the finish caps you pointed out. To completely remove the intstrument panel, you'll have to take the teering wheel off, too. Though you can probably gently bend the panel to get the wires through, once the caps and fasteners are removed. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted September 3, 2014 Super User Posted September 3, 2014 Have you thought about calling the factory and ask for technical help? Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted September 4, 2014 Super User Posted September 4, 2014 Those are just decorative caps that you can pop off with a screwdriver. The hardware that you need to get to is underneath. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted September 4, 2014 Super User Posted September 4, 2014 I would go in through the gauges. That's how I access my Lund dash. Quote
