Reel Tech Question

Is there a trick to removing c-clips?  I have my t3 ballistic apart to replace some bushings with bearings and I'm stuck at these darn clips.

The first trick it to place the reel your working on inside a 1 gallon zip lock bag while you are removing them, this way when one goes flying off it cannot travel far, they are hard to find on the floor or carpet.   To get them loose use a very small flat blade screwdriver.   Place the corer of the fip in one of the slots at the rear of the e-clip and lightly pry against the post that the clip is secured to.   Once it start to move it will go fast so be careful.

Great tips. I see the gaps in the clip but the c- clip for the drive shaft doesn't seem to have any. The reel is the t3 ballistic.

I think it probably does, they are just sitting in the groove around the post, try prying the clip back lightly so you don't scratch everything up and you will see them.

You need a flat screwdriver small enough to fit in the gap you see in the clip. Insert, and then twist the screwdriver. Don't pry, twist. Working inside a large plastic bag is the exact right way to do this.

Take you're small driver, if you have a bench grinder and reduce the blade size by 1/2.....

The bag trick is good insurance, no doubt..

Blade size 1/8 reduced by around 1/2 works well for many other things as well....

Small screwdriver on e-clips works, but not on c-clips. I use a rounded pair of tweezers that can push the ends of the clip, and then you can use the screwdriver. I hold the clip with my finger/thumb, so they do not take off the to the never, never land

Those C and E clips can flight faster than the Enterprise going boldly where no other clip has ever gone before if you don´t take the precaution of removing them inside a plastic bag.

Thanks guys, I did it.  I had to use tweezers for the clip on the drive shaft because it didn't have any gaps.  I didn't use a bag for this one because I couldn't get the angle I needed and I got a sick feeling in stomach when it flew off !  Fortunately after 10 minutes of looking with a flashlight I found it...thank God.  I replaced the bushings with bearings and can honestly say this was the best bang for the buck upgrade ($8).  The retrieve is much smoother now.

I use a small pliers to grab and pull. It pops off and is retained by the pliers.

All good advice. The C clips are the hardest as they need to be pushed from both sides as mentioned.

You shouldn´t feel sick ´bout seeing the clip take off, it took Werner von Braun several dozen of tries before ever being able to launch his first V2 rocket successfully; you did it on the first attempt ---> really outstanding.
