Lake Lanier In Georgia

Hey guys, I'm new and this is my fisrst post, but does anyone know what the best thing to throw for largemouth on shore at Lanier?

A dropshot Roboworm, shakey head worm, and your pick of topwater (popper, buzz bait, spook). Those would be my first choices on Lanier. If the wind is blowing pretty good, a spinner bait does well there. Maybe try green or pink colored worms, and white/silver for hard baits. 

 

It's a fun lake, and you probably stand just as good of a chance of catching a fat Spotted bass as you do a largemouth.

Any good spots you can recommend for bank fishing? I'm new to the area and I've been to Lanier 4 or so times now with abysmal results. Eventually I'll get a boat, but for now I'm land locked.

 

I just started bass fishing this year, so it could be my complete lack of skill as well.

Start down near the south dam on Lanier. The launch areas are somewhat good if you don't have a boat and the water is still cooler. That is one great lake but difficult to determine just where to start. Water is like 100 ' deep. Have you thought about Ft. Yargo state Park. Rather small lake of 200 acres and lots of bass. I caught several on spinner baits, right on the left of the west side launch in the lay downs. Had good luck there with spinner baits, chatter baits and plastic worms. Bass up to 5#. You can only run a boat with 10 HP but if your motor is bigger you will have to electric troll. Good luck .

Bank fishing is a bit tough at Lanier. I would recommend the War Hill Park boat ramp, there are lots of places to walk to from that park, and some good places to boot. Try casting a spinnerbait to points when the wind is blowing. A "Mini Me" spinnerbait has been my go to, it is locally produced by a Lanier guide. can be purchased at Hammonds, a great local tackle shop. Topwater works all day long; try a spook type walking lure in white or silver, small poppers work well at dawn and dusk. Another option is soft plastic swimbaits on a 1/2oz swimbait head. Try shad colors, either white based or clear based. Spotted bass are far more prevalent than LM, but a 2lb spot could drag a 4lb LM for a lap around the lake..
