Captain Underpants Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Also, does it work, and is it durable? :-? Thinking about asking for it for Xmas. Quote
Guest avid Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Sorry to comment without voting, but there was no category I could agree with. The Sammy is a great topwater bait. Gets alot of strikes and catches bass from barely keeper to lunker. The live Sammy does not get alot of stirkes, but EVERY bass I have caught on it. Six I think (never pay all that much attention to the #'s caught) , anyway, all of the bass I caught on it were pretty chunky. I think the smallest one was a 3 lber, couple of 4's and 5's with a 6 or two in the mix. As you see I don't keep prcise records. But suffice it to say. That the live Sammy is neither better nor worse. It is different. If you want action with a chance at a lunker, put on the Sammy. If you must go big, put on the live Sammy. Quote
Captain Underpants Posted November 18, 2006 Author Posted November 18, 2006 Okay, I should have said this earlier. Senario=Farm ponds full of bass that love topwater. Saw the "live" Lucky Crafts in an ad, thought they looked cool. Plus, its Christmas, and there's no better time to get all those expensive lures the baitmonkey always wanted! ;D Quote
The_Natural Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I'm sure it will catch fish, but don't waste your money on the 'live' version...just get the regular sammy. I purchased a live pointer and wasn't all that impressed, so I stay away from any of the L/C 'live' series of baits. Quote

bass109 Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 THe lure catches fish and great action, but like all lucky craft lures the range for $15-20. It wouldnt be good if you lost the lure. I know i lost some luckycraft lures. Quote
lubina Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 ...just get the regular sammy. quote]Same here Quote
Bud Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I use and like the live sammy. Go for it. Quote
Triton9 Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 i have never tried the live sammy but have the regulars and i love them. i would try the live one, the "live" part of the body gives if the fish jumps with the back hook and fish don't shake off as easily. i would ask for it. Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 I have never used one, but i have heard that the Live Pointer and Live Sammy's wire that conect the joints is fragile. Some guys say they break after a couple of fish. I would get the normal sammy for this reason. Who wants a $15+ lure to snap in half? Just my .03 Quote
GAMEOVER Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Im way more interested in the wood Sammy then the live one. The live one takes away a lot of the action that you create when you walk the dog with the plain ol' one. I must get me some wood ones. Quote
Guest avid Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 I was a little surprised by the posts that followed mine. Trust me, what you do with your money is not an issue for me but the arguments against the live sammy didn't make sense. For example "don't waste your money on the live sammy" How could it possibly be a waste of money to buy a lure that attracts strikes from the biggest fish in your lake? "The connect joints are fragile" I posted that I have caught about a half dozen fish in the 4-6 lb range with no adverse reaction whatsoever. I stand by my original point. This is a BIG FISH lure. If you want #'s this is NOT the lure for you. But it is a high quality, very well constructed BIG FISH lure. If you can handle a lower catch rate of heavier bass, then you absoulutely should consider this lure. I don't disrespect opinions that are different from mine. But the reasons given are not at all consistant with my experience. /img] Quote

The best thing the thread starter can do is weigh each response and make a collective decision. I simply share my opinion based on my experience. Quote
Guest avid Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Natural, I apologize for my tone. It was self righteous and your reply was a considerate reminder of that. I'm glad that you mentioned that you were generalizing about the "live" series and not the live sammy. I have a live pointer and it also has served me well. Unlike the live Sammy which is fished the same as a regular sammy, the live pointer needs to be thought of more like a fluke than a regular pointer. I have good success with mine, but I fish it with much longr pauses than the regular poninter. Let the little current and eddies etc, work the lure and the feathered tail. It requires more patience than your typical hard jerk bait, but the payoff is there. Quote
The_Natural Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 No sweat Avid. Your response shows that you really have confidence in it to catch some larger fish, and should weigh more. I actually have a live pointer and a live LVR. The Live LVR was an impulse decision at Cabelas, and I haven't fished it yet. Live LVR in Chartreuse shad... Quote
