Just like the title states I broke two rods going through the drive through at a fast food joint.  Luckily both were G. Loomis rods but they were my favorites.  I had them in my wife's car and I rolled down the windows and forgot she had automatic windows.  If you push the up button twice it rolls all the windows up.  Next thing I know, snap, and my 783 GLX and BCR 803 GLX both tips cracked.  My heart sank and I hoped the Xpeditor service was going to save me but.....   I called my local tackle shop where I bought the BCR 803 GLX and he said he would take them off my hands and give me  new ones if he had them in stock or he could order what I want and I could pay the difference but I would still have to pay the $100 for each to cover his end with G. Loomis.

He had the 783GLX in stock, so there went $100.  I can't complain, for $100 I got a new rod. He did not have the BCR803 GLX in stock so I am faced with a dilemma.... Do I exchange my old best friend for the new GLX version of this rod or do I go all out and pay the difference and have him order a NRX rod?  What do you guys think?

On a side note I did call G.Loomis on Friday when this happened and usually I have a positive experience with these guys but I got what sounded like a guy who had never looked at a rod before. He was clueless.  First he said the Xpeditor service does not cover accidental damage, then he said both of the rods I had, had been discontinued.  I then read there online policy to him and told him where to find the rods on their website.  I then decided to call my local shop and go a different route. Seemed really weird though, I am wondering if Shimano has had in influence on G. Loomis' customer service.

That's kinda dangerous it seems like, what if someone had their hand in the window and it rolled up automatically....

Sorry for your loss

I got my fingers caught in an automatic window quite a bit when I was a kid. My mom would never say anything and just roll up the windows. When you're sitting there with your fingers stuck in the window yelling for your mom to roll it back down trying to decide if they're still attached or not it's a little dramatic.

I think that is fair, the rods were broke accidentally, it would be different if they broke due to defect. That said, I also applaud the OP for honesty and telling them what happened, most would make up a story of how the rod broke on hook set just to score a new rod for free.

$100 a rod is policy, accidents are just that, Loomis aka Shimano is really Squeezing Rod owners .... That's a tough gig... Hope you get you're rods replaced and are happy with... I would jump on a Nrx.. Then you will have a wildcard to boot... As well as probably the best mass produced rod avail.

That is so so sad. Talk about ruining your day.

That was not all of the bad that happened this day (the rods are the worst though).  I left to go to one of my favorite spots, it usually takes me about 60-90 min to get there. I was 30 min away and the road to lake was closed.  I had to go an extra 45 minutes out of the way to get there.  Then I got lost on a gravel country road. When I finally got there, it was hot and the fish had gone down for a nap.  Nothing was biting.  Finally around 2pm I hooked up with a few.  By 6pm I had caught 9 but nothing big.  I did not get home until 10pm.  The detour I took to get there was closed as well due to an accident.  I would usually be home somewhere between 6 and 7.  I was just a messed up day.

What's the Wild Card?

What's the Wild Card?

It's literally an NRX ace of spades playing card that has a serial number on it that serves as a no-questions-asked-one-time free replacement voucher.

I have mine under lock and key. It was a huge influence on buying the rod, as I got it used and it came with the wildcard and so as long as I don't lose it I can get a brand new one if/when it breaks someday.

On Gl2 and Nrx rods, after purchase Loomis Rod Co. Will send a Wild card... It entitles you to immediate replacement any where those rods are sold... Plain and simple... You're on a trip and break it, get it replaced quick if there is a dealer close.... Basically , it's a no BS replacement card.

What's the Wild Card?

It's a card you send in for after you purchase the rod. Takes about two weeks to get it. Then if you break the rod, doesn't matter how, you take the broken rod and the wild card to anyplace that sells your rod and they give you a new one. Has to be exactly like the rod you broke. I have my WILD CARD, hope I never need it.

I will have to check with the tackle shop guy to see if I can get this with the exchange.  If it does, there is no question that the NRX is the way to go.  But which one to get????  Maybe the 7'5'' MH Senko rod?

As much as that's a question for the ages I'd say that whatever your favorite fishing technique is- go with the best rod you can imagine for it. You will be on cloud 9. The XF taper is amazing though, that much I can say!

I took out the new 783GLX today and it was amazing.  I have had my old rod for 8 years and for whatever reason, the new one felt more sensitive and lighter.  It looks exactly the same as the old one but something is different.  One things for sure, it was nice to feel the new cork on the rod.  My old one was starting to look like swiss cheese. If you have not fished this rod before, it has the amazing ability to make a small fish feel like a monster (fun stuff)....

I did however catch 11 Largemouths in about 90 minutes.  10 of those were on Fat Ikas.  2 of them were also in the 4-5 pound range.  All the rest were small but fun.

I like Glx... Have not fished anything very new though, sounds sweet!

Is this a serious statement? He broke a rod in his car window and paid 1/3 of the price for a brand new one. I can't believe anybody with half a brain would expect loomis to replace a rod under this instance for free..

i cant beleive anyone paying 300 for a rod would not expect less then a no questions asked warrenty from said company .Its not like gloomis sent him his 300 back .And said your next rod is 100 bucks.300+100= 400 last i looked.

Why would a company replace a rod that broke from a user error for free?

Fantastic company if they let you get a replacement for a third of the price.

Your math isn't in question. It's how you can logically think a rod company should replace a rod for free when he broke it in a car window....

is your favorite color potato?

The GLX is very worthy of its Price, and the $100 replacement cost is a no- brainer...

Most especially after crushing them in a Car window....

My Favorite Color is Clear, even I get that...

X2.  I broke two 4 inch pieces off a Falcon Expert (my favorite rod at the time).  Totally my fault as I fell face first into a pile of rocks.  Falcon no longer made the Expert (a $290 rod new), but sent me a $200 Cara for $80.  I was a happy camper as I personally felt they owed me nothing as it wasn't in any way, shape or form a fault of theirs.  Fenwick is going to sell me a replacement rod for 45% of the cost of a new one.  I missed the 3rd eye from the end when I strung on the line.  Took me 15 minutes of casting to discover it, and by then a nice groove had worn around the tip.  Again....my fault, but the company is giving me what I consider a sweet deal as they didn't need to offer anything since it wasn't a manufacturing defect.  I was surprised that mono could wear a groove like that in such a short period of time.

Clear to me would be a clear tip ugly stik.not saying it wont break from a window but if.my math is right a 1/3 of 40$ is less then a 1/3 of 300$ .so in potatoe head fashion .the better deal from a money standpoint the clear thought is a better investment.

Honesty is slammed a lot. It's the day we live in. A while back, I was in a checkout line at the store. The cashier, a young woman gave me $20.00 to much change back. When I handed it back to her, I swear the other people in line looked at me like I had 2 heads. It's not the popular thing to do.
