Washout Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I'm in western Illinois and two parking lots are empty on my local water holes. I wasn't expecting this at all. Anyone else noticing the same situation? I'm not complaining, it was just almost disturbing how quiet the water was. Quote
Bruce424 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I wish. Everybody and there mother was out on a kayak or boat Just cruising right in front of me. When I'm trying to fish from the bank. Right over my line. Grrrrrrr. Haha Quote
gramps50 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I wish. Everybody and there mother was out on a kayak or boat Just cruising right in front of me. When I'm trying to fish from the bank. Right over my line. Grrrrrrr. Haha Had that happen to me at Table Rock a couple of weeks ago. The water was white capping from the wind and boats and this gal about ran over my line in a canoe. She had a bigger set than me. I went to one of my local fishing holes this evening and got to fish alone. Going out in the morning to another place, we'll see how that goes. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 31, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 31, 2014 That happened last year at one of my favorite smallie lakes on the 4th of July. Wife and I had a rare day off together so we went to the lake, expecting it to be packed. There was fewer boats there than there normally is on a nice weekend day during the summer. Fishing was terrific that day, lots of solid smallmouths. My weekend is during the week so empty parking lots are the norm for me Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted August 31, 2014 Super User Posted August 31, 2014 Around here it's pretty normal, 3-5 other boats on the lake... Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 31, 2014 Super User Posted August 31, 2014 I actually was planning that this would happen at my spot, and I was right. Very hot weather and high water drives 99% of the anglers out of the area I fish. It was just us and another boat for a little while on a 6 mile stretch of water. Just the way I like it..... LOL. Washout Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Glad it wasn't just me. It felt like a scene out of the walking dead. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted September 2, 2014 Super User Posted September 2, 2014 not for me... i was on lake norman in NC and the boat/drunkard traffic was near an all time high.... my friend and I were looking at 2-4 ft whitecap waves out there at times which is a scary sight fishing from the kayak.... glad you found some solitude! i have one lake in western NC near my brother's place that i frequent. I've never seen more than 1 person out there at a time.... i can relate though that having the water to yourself and quiet can be as weird as it is awesome! Quote
gramps50 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 A friend and I went to a small local lake that is normally packed with idiots on the weekend (this was Sunday) and the was him & I with 2 other guys across the lake. One other buddy showed up for awhile until his wife missed him and he had to go home. After lunch we went to a pond in a local park, when we got there we were the only ones. Another guy showed up then there was the guy with his kid that needed to be straightened out. The kid maybe 12 would come over to the side of the pond we were fishing and butt right in the middle between my buddy and I, or cast right were we were fishing. He didn't understand dirty looks so I finally had enough and explained to him that what he was doing was rude. That's the last I saw of him he went back to the otherside and stayed there. I was surprised there weren't more people out. Quote
kikstand454 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 First weekend of football! Welcome to my favorite time of year, where football and deer hunting take people off the water at the same time the bite turns on. Its a beautiful thing. 1 Quote
Washout Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 I'm thankful I'm a baseball fan! I can bring a radio with me and not miss anything. I never thought about the football angle taking people off the water. Went out again tonight, one pontoon and it was a resident. It was so slow, they just followed us around and watched us fish. I can't blame them, we probably are fairly entertaining to watch... Caught more than I thought we would. The wife even fought one in that had her treed. She's going to fool around and get serious on me. Dove season opened too, judging by the photos on facebook, I would guess that got some too. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 3, 2014 Super User Posted September 3, 2014 Maybe you did not get the memo on the brain eating amoeba in the lake's waters. Quote
