papajoe222 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I was looking to pick up another Sol off of e-bay and noticed a few listings for the new Sol ii. I like the fact that the new design has dual braking (among some other improvements). Can anyone give me some insight on this reel and where in the USA I can get my hands on one? Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted August 30, 2014 Super User Posted August 30, 2014 This is the Sol II it is marketed for the, ADM Australian Domestic Market, it is just a Tatula with a different color scheme and a few other minor changes. I think it is a disgrace to give this reel the Sol name, and I do like the Tatula for the record. Quote
Hogsticker Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Disgrace indeed. Not to mention it's fugly and over priced. Quote
TrippyJai Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 That reel sure is ugly. It looks like one of those cheap $20 reels you can get at Walmart for beginners. Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 30, 2014 Author Posted August 30, 2014 Looks mead diddly to me. I have a Lews with the dual braking and love it for cranks and when I saw the specs on this reel, it's what caught my eye. I haven't checked out the Tatula. Does it have dual braking? Quote
Hogsticker Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 It doesn't have dual brakes. Mag force Z. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted August 30, 2014 Super User Posted August 30, 2014 Neither the Sol II or the Tatula have dual braking. Quote
Hogsticker Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 http://daiwafishing.com.au/td-sol-ii-baitcaster/ The orange brake dial doesn't match the reel. Yikes Quote
Mike2841 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I like my tatula, I wouldn't mind owning one of these Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted August 30, 2014 Super User Posted August 30, 2014 I try not to let looks determine whether or not I buy a particular reel. Performance is what counts. However, I'm sure that it does play a part anyway. Everyone seems to adore the Sol. I prefer my Fuegos. I have 3 Fuegos of which 2 are tuned and upgraded and 2 Sols of which one is tuned and upgraded plus having a Presso spool so I do have experience with both models. Looks might possibly play a part....hopefully a small part...in my preference. I haven't got a Tatula, but do have 4 of the TWS reels. I like the platform. Enough so that I was constantly trying to engage the spool on the 3 other reels I was using while on vacation by pressing down with my thumb. I do have to agree the Soll ll is a fuggly looking reel. Super User Raul Posted August 30, 2014 Super User Posted August 30, 2014 Holy crap, that thing is really fugly ! Quote
timsford Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I agree volfan lol im a vol fan as well since i could walk and i think it looks awesome! At least its something different. Seems like every reel now is either black or silver with red accents Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 It doesn't have dual brakes. Mag force Z. It's listed as having both, thus my initial interest. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 31, 2014 Super User Posted August 31, 2014 Does that thing have foam grips? It's ugly but if it is on par with the Tatula then it might not be so bad. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted August 31, 2014 Super User Posted August 31, 2014 They run about 250au which is about 240us plus another 35-40 in shipping charges. You can have your yellow/orange Tatula for just a little under 300. Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 1, 2014 Super User Posted September 1, 2014 Take a look at a Daiwa Feugo casting reel if you like the Sol. Tom Quote
