PondHopper96 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Some type of (nerodia) water snake. They're harmless but they're mean little guys. They often have infectious bites because they carry a lot of bacteria 1 Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted August 30, 2014 Author Posted August 30, 2014 It was a nasty little dude. I found him right near my tackle bag. I was like "no way man!" Quote
VolFan Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Brown water snake. They're aggressive and actually can musk sort of like a skunk. I'm starting to wonder if some of you guys have ever actually seen a water moccasin. They're a very different critter. Quote

Super User geo g Posted August 30, 2014 Super User Posted August 30, 2014 Wherever there is one, there are more in the same area. When they have babies they have them in mass. Keep your eyes open. Good news its not a cotton mouth the head would be a lot wider. I'm always seeing brown or banded water snakes down here, I pretty sure from the picture that's what it is. Look for more! Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted August 30, 2014 Super User Posted August 30, 2014 Yep, seen many while fishing Florida, biggest I ever, ever seen was in Black Creek, Green Cove Springs, it was huge... I never fished that creek again... I don't scare easy either, but they can get massive in size! (Cotton Mouth) Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 31, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 31, 2014 I have seen a real one. This is at my friends pond last summer. Even through that blurry picture you can tell that suckers a water moccasin. Thick body, the color and shape of the head, plus the fact it's floating on the water like it's made of foam. I've only ever seen 2, once was this last April at Table Rock. I was so focused on getting the Megabass Vision 110 Magnum that I'd spotted out of a tree that I almost didn't see him until I was right next to the big rock he was sunning on. Quickly did an about face in the boat so my brother in law, who is really scared of snakes come to find out, was right next to him. Lots of girly screaming, boat rocking, and cussing ensued I was able to peel him off my shoulders and get the bait out of the tree without any issues though Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted August 31, 2014 Super User Posted August 31, 2014 I remember that cartoon If you grew up in the 70's you have to remember it. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 1, 2014 Super User Posted September 1, 2014 I treat every snake as water moc, they freak me out. By nature water moccasins spend the majority of their time in the water except to sun themselves to regulate body temperature. Possibly but unlikely one will be in a garage unless you live very close to water. Can't always tell by the coloration or banding, that can vary, the head shape is triangular and the inside of the mouth is white, I hope not to be that close. Small ones may be more dangerous than larger ones, venom is just as potent and they don't conserve it like bigger ones do. I try to be very cautious where I freshwater fish, certain places I just won't go. Quote
Skeeter Dan Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Its head is to big to be a non poisonous snake . It a bad picture it either a Cotton mouth or a Copper head. When growing up in the south hunting and fishing you better know the difference from non poisonous to poisonous snakes. Just incase you didn't know it is illegal to kill them in Tenn. That my friends is a stupid law !!! ( The only Good snake is a dead snake). Quote
