My wife is a garage sale freak and a totally awesome woman. While at the 100 mile garage sale she bought me 3 new pflueger bait casters. Just wondering if they're junk our decent. I haven't even seen them in person yet just a couple pics she sent me.

Never fished the baitcasters but the spinning reels are the BEST on the market. The president is a better choice than most reels costing twice as much.

I have a patriarch, last years chrome collared one. I love it. It casts great, is fairly light, and smooth as butter. My brother also has one of these, and the new model blue with carbon fiber handles. The new one is even lighter, and just as smooth. Can't go wrong with a pflueger, they are really nice reels that you don't hear much about.

X2 - geez iceintheveins, you took the words right out of my keyboard. The Pflueger President is my favorite, but I never used their baitcasters.

Pfleuger makes good reels.  Period.  Their spinning reels are second to none.  As for the baitcasters, I can comment only on the Presidents and Patriarchs.  I have two Presidents and four Patriarchs.  Let's just say that they are not for sale.  I love them.

I like them. Do you know which model she found?

Spinning or baitcast?  I have a President XT spinning reel.  A beautiful reel that sees little use because I prefer baitcast reels.  I have 2 Trions that DVT has gone through for me, and 2 Patriarch XTs.  The Patriarchs are beautiful reels.  The Trions aren't pretty or real light, but both models are very good reels.  For me the Trions are better suited to 3/8 oz. up, and are casting machines in that range.  The XTs handle light baits quite well.  Love the finish on them, too.  :teeth:

You are correct.  Your wife is awesome.  :teeth3:  Mine couldn't care less if she saw a great deal on any fishing gear.  :sad78:

Their baitcasters have sometimes been questionable but the their spinning reels are probably one of the best bangs for the buck.  I don't own one but I have fished a buddy's President on several occasions and it is a solid reel.

I have one. It's the $50 Templar baitcaster. I hated it for a while, but now that I've been using it again here lately I realized it's a very good reel to be so cheap. I've been using it pretty often for the past two years and it has never been cleaned. It's the one that I learned to use baitcasters with.

I am a fan of their spinning reels, but honestly I have never used one of their casting reels. In years past the options for LH casting reels from them has been slim, but I see several LH reels in their current line up that interest me, so maybe my next new casting reel will be a Pflueger.

I have the chrome Patriarch Baitcaster that Cabela's clearanced out last year for $99.  It is a solid and smooth workhorse.  It is a beautiful reel to boot.  So tough to gain brandshare in such a competitive reel market.  Darn near impossible to differentiate an offering.

I have two President and one Supreme XT spinning reels and love them. The Presidents are the best under $75 spinning reels out there.

Never tried their bait casters but if they are anything like their spinning reels they are great. I have Presidents & Purist spinning reels, that's all I buy.

My guess is your wife did good...

I have 2. A supreme XT on a *** *** 7'1" HF and a Patriarch on a  Powell Endurance 7'1" HF. I really like both reels very much. She is a damned fine woman thinking of you at a timelike that.

I own a Pflueger Supreme (with a flipping switch) and Trion (baitcasters) I bought back about 12 years ago that make an annual visit

to a professional reel maintenance service and they keep on tickin'

Well my buddy's dad is an All Star Rod/Abu Garcia pro, but he can really use any Pure Fishing brands. He has almost completely switched to the new Pfluegers over the Gen 3 Revos (excluding any speacialty reels like the new Revo Beast). He says that they excel in some of the areas that the new Revos have been a disappointment. I've used both when on his boat and I personally can't tell a huge difference between a Pflueger and an Abu. My favorite Pflueger has been the Supreme XT, which is a Revo SX frame but with a centrifugal brake system (not the pitch centrifugal like found in the Abu's). I hate both brands magnetic brakes though.

I'm the only person on here that didn't like president spinning reels. I dumped a nearly new one on trade to gramps50 above, and I'm happy to have gotten rid of it. To each his own, I'd say string 'em up and hit the water. Only you can tell if they work for you.
