I am still struggling with wanting to buy a Tatula Type R. I have been looking into them for some time. I hear so many great things about them. What scares me is that I have never see no many reels that are hardly used being sold by owner.

To me this seems to indicated they are not happy with them.

Your feelings on this?

In the same exact boat as you man. I think i'm going to buy it and see what happens. I've also thought about demoing it from TW

We (bass anglers) are a fickle bunch. Don't read too much into it. Experimenting is half the fun sometimes. The only way to quell your curiosity is to feed it. Grab one of the lightly used ones and see what you think. It's not going to implode or anything. If it's not to your tastes just flip it.

What a dilemma.  How do you decide?  What you need is a round, decision making device.  Fortunately, the government makes them.  What you do is assign one value to the face of the important government dude on the front of the device.  In this case - Diawa.  Assign another value to the icon on the other side of the device, either an eagle or a buffalo or a building, whatever.  In this case, the value would be - Shimano.

Now, you toss the device upwards into the air, imparting a flip as you do so so as to make the device spin on its axis.  Do this on a relatively hard surface, let the device hit the ground - it may bounce - that's ok.

When the device has come to rest, the image facing upwards, skywards, towards GOD as it were, is indicative of what GOD who'd do if he (or she) were the one choosing.  In this case, I took the liberty of flipping the decision making device for you and the icon representing Shimano came up.  So you can take it from me, that GOD told me to tell you to buy a Shimano.

What this means is that you should forget about the Tatula and purchase a new Calcutta or a new Curado,

Go to your local fishing tackle store and see what's available.

Option B would be to go to your local tackle retailer and purchase a Tatula and a new Curado I.  Then fish them both and make your own decisions.  Don't be hasty.  Take 3 or 4 years before you make any decision.  Glad I could help.

I already thought of TW demo program but they don't offer it as a demo.

I sold 2 Kistler Mag TS rods after fishing them twice, in other words, less thah 24 hours of use.

I sold a Calais 100A reel after using it once, less than 24 hours of use

I sold an Abu 4500C after using it once, less than 24 hours of use.

Why ? nope, I don´t need the money nor had to buy them in a hurry, I sold them because I didn´t liked them and nobody is going to say that any of them is a bad ítem.

I'd say DVT, nailed it pretty much... Fishing rods and reels are that way... At least the reel is reasonable, try it, you might indeed love it!

Nope, I ain´t a Daiwa man, I have more Shimanos than Daiwas. Almost twice more Shimanos than Daiwas, one my most favorite reels is the Shimano Chronarch 50Mg/Scoripon 1000 Mg ( have both )  and my most trusted and the reel that has caught me most of my trophy fish is a Curado 200B ( you try to even touch that reel and you are in deep trubble ).

What did not not like about a calais?

I think you see them for sale due to what some consider a larger size and uncomfortable to Palm. Not because it's a bad reel by any means.

That sentence does to make sense. lol

What didn't you understand to say what did I mean?

It was an impulse purchase, I was there at Academy and it stuck to me ( maybe The BaitMonkey whispering in my ear ? ) , I used it once and my friend Alejandro insisted he wanted to purchase it right there, no emotional attachments developed yet so it was easy for me to part, besides, not that I didn´t like it but it was another short handle reel, also I wanted to try one of those magnesium frame reels I heard so much about at TackleTour.

I sold the reel to Alejendro for what I paid at Academy for it and got me a TDZ103H ( they cost about the same at that time ). I´m not a weight weenie but the experience of fishing with a 6 ish oz reel is something very special.

Tatula is a good reel for the money, the only negatives that I ever hear are that it is wide in the front end and the brake dial is not recessed enough for some.  The prices are good so you wont be out much money if you don't like it, and they seem to sale fast when some on puts one up at a good price.  Spend a few extra dollars and upgrade the bushings in the levelwind and handle knobs and it makes for a very smooth reel that cast very well.

Where can I get those parts online?
