I just bought an old Shakespeare casting reel and would like some background on it. I haven't found much by searching. It is a goldish colored Shakespeare that has this etched into the black frame on the cover by the spool: 1969B Model: EB It seems to be in great condition mechanically and nice cosmetically. I paid the guy $10.00 for it at a yard sale. Thanks for any info like: Value, Specs, Opinions, Best rod to pair with, Technique, etc...??

The Shakespeare 1969 B is a fairly rare reel  and was the precursor  to the Shakespeare President line of reels,  I am trying to research what the model EB was, it was used commonly throughout the Shakespeare line of reel but I have not found out what it indicates.

Typically, the 2 letter code indicates the first year of production or the first year of a major innovation.  EB would indicate 1969.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, I was sure that the B represented a revision, but did not know what the EB was in reference to.  Thanks for the link.
