cjam93 Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Hey guys so I recently picked up the squarebill KVD cranking rod and I really like it a lot. My only complaint is the reel seat is a bit larger than what I am used to, and the larger reel seat combined with a Tatula, which is what I use on almost every rod I have, is just not a very comfortable set up. So I would like to pick up a smaller reel to go with the rod. My price range would be somewhere around $100-$150. To be honest since I found the Tatula I have not looked into any other reels because I have been so happy with it, so I am a bit out of the loop on other reels in this price range. I am open to any brand, I just want a reel similar in quality of a Tatula, just smaller. Thanks for the help! Quote
Cgrinder Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 You can get a Shimano 50E for $150 or under if you shop around and don't mind buying gently used. Quote
TorqueConverter Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I had the 7'10'' stick, and it wasn't so much that the reel seat was large (it was the cramped Fuji ACS seat) but that the blank was enormous because it's a big ol glass stick. I think you might want a reel that sits low on it's reel seat rather than simply a small reel because some small reels can still be tall. The shortest reel I have ever used is the current gen BPS Extreme and performance wise it's comparable to the PQ witch is on the lower end of your price spectrum. A Curado I, if it's not too tall is probably your best bet. 1 Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted August 26, 2014 Super User Posted August 26, 2014 RH or LH reel? I assume you are wanting to throw bigger, deeper crankbaits with a 7'10" glass rod ? Quote
Gabriel052 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Recently picked up the Abu Garcia Orra Winch. I absolutely love it. Its a 5.4:1 and feels really good in my hands. Dicks is selling them for $100, but I have seen them for a bit cheaper lately. Good luck! Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted August 27, 2014 Super User Posted August 27, 2014 Spend the extra $30 and get a Curado I. If you are throwing light baits under 3/8 of an ounce, go with the chronarch e for an extra 20. Two of the best reels on the market. Quote

Are you saying the Chronarch E casts lighter baits than the Curado I? (I own the Chronarch 51e, but not a Curado I.) oe Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted August 27, 2014 Super User Posted August 27, 2014 I crank with the Lamigals SR705R and 765 ~ both are glass and fairly beefy blanks. I am very happy with these two reels. KVD Cranker Calcutta 200D A-Jay Quote
