dragracefan3526 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Hey I was wondering if anyone has ever painted lead weights and what kind of paint did you use? Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted August 25, 2014 Super User Posted August 25, 2014 I tried painting lead bullet weights with limited success using a exterior spray paint from a hardware store . The paint would chip off fairly quickly ... I thought about spraying a primer on first then the exterior paint but never got that far befor swtching to tungsten weights ... If I were to attempt it again I would focus on using powder paints which use heat & a curing process to harden and adhere to lead weights MUCH better I believe . A you tube serch of using powder paints with lead weights will provide a lot of good information I believe . Quote
Super User Munkin Posted August 26, 2014 Super User Posted August 26, 2014 You can powder paint them but it is hard to paint them without painting the hole shut. Normally I just rattle can them with black or OD primary and call it good enough. The spray paint doesn't hold up as well but if I am using them instead of tungsten it means I plan on losing a lot of them. Allen Quote
Brayberry Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I just use Powder Paint, no problems at all Quote
Shanes7614 Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Munkin... Use toothpicks in the holes before painting to keep from clogging. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 26, 2014 Super User Posted August 26, 2014 Magic Marker. Only thing I paint is a leadhead when I make my marabou and bucktail jigs, I use nail polish from the dollar store. I would think magic marker would work fine too. Quote
