sbeetz Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I need some advice on purchasing two rods. I have two Abu Garcia promax baitcasters. I also have an Abu Orra sx combo that came on a 7ft medium heavy Orra sx rod with micro guides that I have been throwing frogs on. Am I using that rod correctly? I need to purchase two rods for the two promax reels and have about $150 total to spend. Looking for suggestions, I need to cover all types of baits with three rods. (I also have a medium light spinning combo I use for light stuff) sorry the post is poorly constructed, football is on. WHO DEY! Quote

sbeetz Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 It was right in front of my face! Any preferred brands? Any brands to avoid? All while staying under that $150 price range? Quote
paleus Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I would get 2 Abu Garcia Vendettas. One medium and one medium heavy. Quote
timsford Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I dont know about brands to avoid but for rods in that price range ive had pretty good luck with the team daiwa t rods and the powell deisel series. Lightning rod shocks are pretty good for moving baits as well because they have a softer tip. The daiwa t rods and tbe deisels can be had for under 60 bucks on sale right now. you could buy two of those with free shipping and still have enough to get some line, especially if you wait for labor day sales when they will be even cheaper. If you want to stick with abu you can find the old model veritas cheap. Cant comment on the performance of it because i never tried one but it seems like a popular rod. Quote

Gabriel052 Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 OMG! That veritas was a steal!! Good going man. You will love them. Those rods are as tough as nails, and both cabelas and ABU have great customer service. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted August 28, 2014 Super User Posted August 28, 2014 Very much a steal cause now they are up to $80 @ cabelas blowout didnt last long. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted August 28, 2014 Super User Posted August 28, 2014 Two rods - that's just the beginning, especially if you read this forum a lot. I own rods by Abu, St. Croix, BPS, and ***. They all have good points, but overall I'd pick my Abu Veritas, followed closely by the ***. They're light, sensitive, and I like the way they load when casting. Cutting the list to two, I would keep a medium and a med-heavy, bothe fast actions. Best of luck with your choice. Quote
sbeetz Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 I ordered the 6'6" medium action, and the 7'3" medium heavy. They arrived yesterday. I got to throw them for about 15 minutes. They are miles ahead of the trash I was using. I cant wait to catch a fish on one. I will report back when that happens. 1 Quote
LunkerFisher Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I ordered the 7'3" as well! I also ordered the 7' mmf. I already have the 7'6". The one I have already is real nice! Quote
