Rain Gear

Looking to pick up a new set next week or so. Was thinking about Cabelas bass angler set jacket/bibs. Always on sale half off. Reviews seem to be good all around. Just seeing what you guys use and has been consistently waterproof without issues. Warmth is not a issue as I tend to layer up with a jacket. But bibs on the other hand I prefer something warm but not too warm for summer. Early spring and late fall I usually wear underarmor under jeans or khakis. Throw me some ideas fellas. Thanks!

Yes, but if there is any issue Cabela's is easy to deal with.

Grundens Rain Gear. Have 2 different sets, one set is over 8yrs old(more commercial grade bibs and fleece lined pull over jacket) and a light weight set for 5 years now and still no problems.  May have to order them online, but they make a quality product that will last.

Fit on Guidewear is important.  They make lots of different sizes.  If you're going to drop four bills on a set of rain gear, I'd make sure it fits by going to the store and trying it on, likely wearing similar clothes to what I'd be fishing in.  Yeah, you can do it on line, and they are extremely easy to deal with, but is all that extra time worth it?  I dunno.

 

Me, I think a couple of different sets of rain gear are necessary.  For cold/cool weather, ( early spring - later in the fall) Guide wear is great.  Late spring & summer though, not so much, it can get a little hot.  I keep a set of thin Frogg Toggs for warmer weather rain protection.   Also, for summer rains in Missouri, they are generally pretty strong but don't last long.  I've been known to keep an umbrella in the boat and just wait out a short rain.

 

What ever yo do, don't settle for a rain poncho.  If you are standing in a crowd, ponchos are ok.  Ponchos don't handle wind real well and are a pain to fish in.  Don't get one unless it is your only, last resort.

I only deal with rain in South FL, not cold and rain simultaneously, so frog toggs does the trick for me. Affordable, lightweight, somewhat breathable. Can't say I wear it often though.

I have a good roll up set of super lightweight rain gear that works great when it's middle of summer/ high humidity weather. This set is primarily going to be for the rest of the year.

Dammit the sale ended the guide wear bibs were 169 and jacket was 139. The bass angler model. Should have just ordered them last night when I had them in cart. Arrrrrrgggghhhh

Awesome! I called cabelas last night they couldn't do anything because their system was updating but said they would hook me up in am. Just called they gave me the set for $400 and said if they go on sale cheaper Labor Day to call and they will match it.

Be patient, they are on sale most of the time, so much I'm not convinced it's actually a "sale".

Academy has some for like 569 for the top and $59 for the bottoms. The reviews are good but I don't know. I use Frogg Toggs for the summer.

Idk I have a cheap set already for summer. But under heavy heavy rain they leak. I've been putting off getting a quality set for far too long. Now that I'm in the realm of custom rods and $300 reels I have no excuse but to upgrade the essentials. Lol

I'm not in that realm yet. Maybe I'll get there when these kids get out of my house; if I'm still healthy enough to fish.

is it insulated? I was eyeing that one too. I may order it and compare it to the cabelas set. Also found out the set I ordered doesn't have the stretchy cuffs to keep rain from entering the wrist area...

RW, hey I'm not crazy about this jacket at all. No cuffs on sleeves no vent in hood, only 2 thin pockets and phone pocket inside. No added protection it seems on zipper. Idk maybe the regular guidewear is where it's at. This is the bass angler model. Bibs are on back order so can't judge those. I'm gonna order the Frabill F4 set and compare. Idk I expected a way better set for the price.
