Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 24, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 24, 2014 When I saw these in the pictures from Icast I was excited to try them out. So when my local BPS got some in I jumped at the chance to own one. I kept it pretty basic with the silver/black back. As soon as I took it out of the package I realized there was an issue, all 3 split rings were open? Easy fix, changed out the rings and swapped the hooks to #3 short shank VMCs. I hit the water with it the next day at a small public pond, fishing from the bank. Conditions were not good for it with no wind, bright sun, and rapidly warming air temps. Still, a fish blasted the bait on about my third cast. This bait is extremely loud and has a very wide wobble, rocking almost 180* during the retrieve. It's also a true wakebait, running at or just below the surface the entire retrieve. After the fast start there was no more excitement until I'd walked a majority of the pond. I had one blowup and miss the bait, then another eat it really well. I had at least a couple fish swing at the bait as soon as I started my retrieve that didn't hook up. I was letting the disturbance of the bait landing die down before I'd start my retrieve because it was so calm. I'm guessing those fish were just looking at the bait and attacked as soon as it moved. I managed to catch a few more before I had to pack it in. The fish that hit this bait were really trying to kill it, probably because of how aggressive the bait is. The paint job scratches very easily so if that bothers you, this may not be the best bait for you. Otherwise, check your hooks and split rings and you should be good to go, I know I'll be adding a couple more to my arsenal 5 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted August 24, 2014 Super User Posted August 24, 2014 Alright you pushed me over the edge, Ima pick one or two up! Lots of people I've talked to lately have been going bananas over this bait... I've only ever used the H2O express wakebaits, it'll be fun to try a new one Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted August 24, 2014 Super User Posted August 24, 2014 Reminds me of the egg Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted August 24, 2014 Super User Posted August 24, 2014 Thanks for that review, I'm going to grab some myself. Quote
ThatZX14Fella Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I'll pick one up if Acadamy has them. Quote
KritterGitter Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 What kinda setup do you throw it with? Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 If you ever see them in store, give the Bass Pro Shops "Offshore Angler" wake bait a try as well. They are 4.99 and have a ridiculously loud knocker in them. I can literally hear the thing coming almost from the end of the cast. It also carries a little larger body profile. However, the knocker may not always be the best idea. I may have to grab one or two of these and try them out as well. Thanks for the report! Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted August 24, 2014 Super User Posted August 24, 2014 Your review did nothing to get me to buy one. Bad split rings right out of the package, crap hooks, and a paint job that is not very durable.... All for $8.99. What a bargain. LOL Quote
Super User tcbass Posted August 24, 2014 Super User Posted August 24, 2014 lol. Two nights ago I ordered a Rapala Waking Minnow and Arashi Wake from Dicks. Can't wait to get them. On another note, I tried my Arashi squarebill and caught 5 big bass and it held up great so far. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted August 24, 2014 Super User Posted August 24, 2014 Cabelas still doesn't have em Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted August 24, 2014 Super User Posted August 24, 2014 How loud is loud? Like red eye shad loud? Quote
TorqueConverter Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Looks similar to The Egg, which is my favorite wakebait so I'm going to have to get few of these. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 25, 2014 Author Global Moderator Posted August 25, 2014 Your review did nothing to get me to buy one. Bad split rings right out of the package, crap hooks, and a paint job that is not very durable.... All for $8.99. What a bargain. LOL I'm not trying to talk anyone into buying one, and one trip isn't really a very thorough review, just my observations and results from fishing with one for a couple hours. It's a new bait that a lot of guys are interested in but haven't been able to get one yet. Some found out that I had picked one up and asked me to post a review after I had a chance to use it. I change the hooks and split rings out on a lot of my baits, so that wasn't a big issue to me, but something that those who fish with stock hardware should look out for. I'll have to take a picture of the bait after catching some fish. It isn't that the paint job is flaking off or anything, it just has a bunch of very visible scratches on it from the fish and the hooks. That kind of thing doesn't bother me, but I know some guys really don't like their baits to be scratched up like that. How loud is loud? Like red eye shad loud? It's more like a one knocker type sound since it only has a single knocker rattle. What kinda setup do you throw it with? I was fishing it on a 7' M/F Ethos casting rod with a 6.2:1 200B Curado and 14lb Mustad Ultra Line UL max. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 27, 2014 Author Global Moderator Posted August 27, 2014 Here's the best pictures I could get to show what I'm talking about with the paint job. It isn't terrible, just seems like it gets scratched up easier than most other baits I fish. I like baits with lots of battle scars showing though so it doesn't bother me Quote
Shanes7614 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I have buzz baits and spinnerbaits that the paint has been scratched off of from catching so many fish I them they are down to just bare lead. I think any super productive lure is gonna show wear and tear. Great review of an awesome bait!!! Quote
