I.rar Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 My curado e seems to have lost some drag pressure. I checked the star drag nut and reassembled a few times and it's still the same. The drag spring washers still have their () shape. Not sure what I'm missing. Any suggestions? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 24, 2014 Super User Posted August 24, 2014 Might be time for new washers. Carbontex are around $8. Quote
Josh Smith Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Hello, New clutches as was mentioned, and you'll also need new spring washers. It's not compression that kills spring power (though new springs will take a set and say there) but rather it's use which weakens springs. If you regularly adjust the drag the springs will lose some of their holding power, although, if you lock the drag down, it should stay locked. Springs allow a wider adjustment range, and the more spring washers, the wider that range is. Flat washers would allow an on/off only drag. Josh Quote
I.rar Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 Carbontex was going to be installed later along with bearings but I guess I could get them now. I never lock my drags down. I usually set my drag at the beginning of the trip and it stays until I leave. Quote
baluga Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Could be placement of the last metal drag washer. It's one side is flat and smooth and the other side is not so flat, The flat/smooth surface should be facing out towards the handle instead of facing the felt/carbon fiber washer. Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Any chance you have braid tied directly to the spool? If so it will slip and give the allusion that your drag is not working. Quote
I.rar Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 I know I'm very slow to update but i finally installed the carbontex and it's a night and day difference. Smooth all the way around and I can finally get some great drag pressure out of the reel. Definitely worth the $8. I've had them on all of my previous casters but forgot what a difference they make! I.rar Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 Got them from hp reel bearings eBay Store. He was on vacation when I ordered but is back now. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 14, 2014 Super User Posted September 14, 2014 I get mine straight from Smooth Drags. Just call them, and talk to Dawn. 1 Quote
