To say I knew some of these people personally would be a huge stretch of the truth. Many of the Motown celebs lived in my neighborhood including Berry Gordy, seeing them outside or shopping wasn't out of the ordinary. Some of us used to hang out at a drive in, now and then Marvin Gaye and David Ruffin (Temptations) came by, we all cruised on our bikes with them.

Wow that's awesome, what a great time period to grow up in....

Why you would want to listen to music so obnoxious that you have to look up the lyrics is beyond me haha....

You find enjoyment in music that by your own words your friends find strange, yet for some reason it moves you.  While you don't care for his choice in music maybe you can understand and appreciate the enjoyment that he gets from it.   Not all of us appreciate the same things.

I was kinda joking, I listen the same kind of music, I just have to understand the words or I don't like it.

There plenty of songs in other languages I like, like dean martins version of volare, its not all english so I don't really know the lyrics in a way.

Dean Martin - Volare (High Quality - Remastered): http://youtu.be/mkWhkKVvqHUw

I'll listen to everything from that, to this below.

System of a Down, Disturbed, Tool, and many others are on my playlist, my favorite song by SOAD is Aerials.   I have found myself listening to a lot of White Zombie lately.

Fans of Doo-w(o)p would not be happy that "In The Still of the Night" was called rock and roll. Dion was also considered Doo-***. (I can't believe that the site censored the term)

I didn't call in the still of the night rock and roll.

And the specific song lovers who wander by dion is a rock and roll song for sure.

hell, Dion was a huge influence on rock N' roll.

Call it "doo-***", call it "soul", call it "rock-a-billy". As Billy Joel says,

"It's still rock and roll to me".

I'm with hootie... Call it what you want, I call it good music!

What are they gonna do when they run out of names for metal, are they gonna call it "black-er ultra-hardcore murder metal" haha

Or is that already a type of metal...

Different strokes for different folks. I guess they censure the word doow*p is because they don't won't Italian to be upset or insulted with the term W*p or D**o . I 'm half Italian and all of my mothers side of the family got real angry when they heard those words. The words don't bother me because I'm American and the other half of me is Irish.I'm a Hinze 57 But thats why they censure the word. (That is my opinion) Fish on

Music, like everything else, evolves. "Favorites" are usually defined by era.

These three define Rock & Roll for me:

Lets not forget Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin and on and on. To me the Best Rock-n-Roll was the mid 60's to the mid 70's Rock on

Death metal and nascar need to be flushed down a toilet to which there is no end for it to ever possibly come back.

So because you don't like something that means it shouldn't exist? Seems legit.

I'll rephrase it so nancy grace doesn't get her pug face in a bunch.

Psych.

Imo the best rock and roll was late 50s to early 60s...

I dunno. You'd be leaving out some people like Tom Petty and Bob Seger. I'm not saying 50's and 60's music isn't very good (it is), but other decades have some strong stuff as well.
