Squirmin Wormin Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 This probably depends on where you live too, but every state has limits as far as how many bass you can keep, like here it's 5,now with that being said and fishing as i do around here,i haven't caught that limit yet of keepers yet this year . i don't know it that's where you live and is a problem either , like i said where you live might have something to do with that ,dont know . sure i get some small ones but not the 15inch+ sizes needed for here ,i know that's how states keep their bass population's in good order, but not once this year have i gotten a full quota . every now and then maybe 3 but not 5, has this happened to you? and yeh i know we fish for sport, relaxation etc.. but just curious , thnx. Super User tcbass Posted August 22, 2014 Super User Posted August 22, 2014 I like to keep bass to eat. I keep them in the 1lbs-2lbs range. I usually keep bass 1 out of every 4 outings and usually get out 1 or twice a week. If I catch less then 3 keepers, I let them go. I usually only keep 3-5 because I dont' want to fillet 2 fish. Our limit here is 5. I love catching and keeping fish because I love eating them. Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 The only time I 'keep" legal bass is when I put them in my live well during a tournament. They're released after weigh-in. On most of the lakes we fish, about a third of the guys will bring in a limit. It's rare for all the entrants to bag a limit and when it does happen, most fish are barely legal length. I've had days when I couldn't boat a limit of keepers and other days on the same lake when I'd get twenty or more. If you fish the same lake frequently and haven't, or rarely bag a limit check with other anglers. The lake may just need to have a slot limit to get the numbers of keeper fish higher. Quote
uncustered Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 3 limits of 8 (2 person boats) outta 4 tourneys... Been a decent year... Quote

This is exactly what needs to happen at one particular lake by my house. You will usually win the tournament if you bring in a limit @ 4-6lbs 2 weeks ago I was shocked because it took 11 to win. A 4/5/6 were caught that night. My friend pre fished it today for tomorrow's tourney and out of the 2 they boated 44 fish. 8 hit the keeper mark of 12" Quote
