Squirmin Wormin Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I know we have gotten into fishing by now or are starting too, but when you look at what you accumulate after the years go by it will astonish you. for people starting out maybe as well. Like when i look at my rod rack i have 4 total ,2 bass rods,2 crappie rods, now when it comes to tackle boxes i have 3, one is like a mix of topwater, worms, crankbaits, mepp's, small jigs and other terminal tackle in it , the 2nd is all plastics and hooks and wts, the 3rd is a medium one like the 1st box but holds spinner baits instead of crankbaits , I don't know how many you have but for those of us that have gotten into this, when does it stop ? were like kids in a candy store, and i know we like new stuff, but i'm sure theirs of you know what i'm saying. do you think you have enough tackle and will get more or are sufficient with what you have? einscodek Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 self-control.. the fishing industry is banking on that none of us have any I thought I had alot of gear but I have nothin' compared to most of u and most of you have myriads of expensive rods and probably hundreds of lures.. kudos if you can afford them all and the 10 variations of the same crankbait etc I just dont find you need to spend all that much $$$ to catch a fish Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Unless fishing is just a way to pass time, or an excuse to get away and have a six pack or two, the answere is; when you're looking up at the grass rather than down on it. I have 21 rods, 16 reels, 4 tackle bags and over two dozen 3700 series boxes full of lures and that isn't counting soft plastics. Many of the rods and a few of the reels will never again see use, but I would never part with them. Most of the other gear was bought on impulse during the off season as that's when the bait monkey seems to know I'm most vulnerable. Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 22, 2014 Super User Posted August 22, 2014 I only have 5 rod-n-reels I fish with! Tackle, uhh my plastics boxes weight 35#s Quote
bmlum415 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 You can never have enough. I have 17 rods, 19 reels, 23 Plano boxes and many gallon ziplocks filled with plastics. This month alone ive spend over $800 just on swimbaits and I'm only 17. I'm scared to see what I'll have by the time I'm 30. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 22, 2014 Super User Posted August 22, 2014 You only have 4 rods ? ........ Are you on a tackle diet or what ? Purchasing fishing stuff is as fun as fishing with it. 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted August 22, 2014 Super User Posted August 22, 2014 You only have 4 rods ? ........ Are you on a tackle diet or what ? Purchasing fishing stuff is as fun as fishing with it. Amen to that brotha! I only have 2 modern bass rod and reels but I have 5 or so old reels and pistol grip rods! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 22, 2014 Super User Posted August 22, 2014 With the exception of replacement lures, terminal tackle and an experiment with a new lure I quit buying when I realized I could catch anything that swims on maybe 6 lures or less, that was 10 years ago. I have enough back up to fish maybe 5 years without buying anything but flukes, which I use in both fresh and saltwater. Quote
Todd2 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I'm convinced that if a Bass can be caught it can be done with a jig and/or spinnerbait. So why do I have worms, diving cranks, lipless cranks, spoons, etc? I guess I like to support the lure companies. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted August 22, 2014 Super User Posted August 22, 2014 I don't think you can have too many rods & reels. I like to have a rig for every situation I might run into. Besides bass fishing, this includes shore rigs for catfish, distance casting rigs, trout dragging rigs ( for fishing at Taneycomo), Paddlefish snagging rigs, crappie rigs, carp rigs and I'm not done yet. I understand that it is a habit, but it isn't necessarily a self destructive one. For instance, if I has a cocaine habit, all I'd have to show for it at the end of the day would be a runny nose. I stopped asking why I collect fishing tackle a long time ago. Instead, I ask myself questions like, Does it fill a niche in my collection? Is it an upgrade to something that I've already acquired? Can I afford it at this time? Quote
MikeJames Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Oh man, I just went threw this with my mom a few weeks ago. On the way back from visiting my brother we stopped at Bass Pro. As I was looking at baitcasters she asked me "Don't you have enough already?" so it made me wonder how many I actually have. So I counted and I have 92 rods and well over 100 reels . Granted most I pick up at yard sales. I've picked up 10-15 at a time along with a few tackle boxes for $20 or less. One of my neighbers is retired and I bring them to him and he checks them out, oils, greases, puts new line on, fixes what he can and gives them back a few days later. It gives him something to do. I've even sold a few to him and made a few bucks. It's a win win if you ask me! Quote
speed craw Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 A part of me wants to have tackle warehouse on speed dial . However it comes to moderation . I try and break things down into categories and sort from there for priority . Some stuff has more priority like jigs , and soft plastics good lord I have a plethora . ( 3 amigo's quote ) Quote
