Super User ChrisD46 Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 You wouldn't know it by many areas in the 90's currently - but soon the bass will begin to move from their Summer deep water haunts to follow the shad moving into shallower water through the end of Fall . Will you be throwing a new top water popper, chugger or walk-the-dog type bait through the Fall - or stay with a tried and true selection ? I'm going to do a little bit of both I believe : For tried and true , I am going to make a more concerted effort to the Lucky Craft Gunfish 95 & 115 . For the new , I'm open to new top water baits being recently released ... What will you be throwing for top water action soon ? Quote
Super User tcbass Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 The topwater bite has been fairly good here all year long. I will continue using my KVD Sexy Dog, KVD Splash, and Cavitron Buzzbaits. I do want to try to catch some on my new Bionx Wake Bait and Livetarget jerkbait though. Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Our topwater bite down south has been on like Donkey Kong since April. River 2 Sea spittin wa's, Damiki D Pop 70's, Cavitron Buzzbaits, Livingston Lures Pro Sizzle Jr. and 42 Tackle Co "42 Toads" have been reining supreme. I have modified some BPS "Offshore Angler" wake baits and have been throwing them religiously for bass and reds. They have been hammering it with reckless abandon. I will have some Livingston Lures Pro Wakes in my possession soon as well... Excited to try them. 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted August 22, 2014 Author Super User Posted August 22, 2014 The Damiki D-Pop 70's are on my short list as is (believe it or not) the new weight Rebel Pop-R . I plan to sand the lower lip of the Pop-R (make it a spitter) and upgraded treble hooks with a feather / mylar tail ...Poor man's Rico . Quote
Cgrinder Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Gunfish 115 for me. Maybe a Giant Dog-X if I feel brave. Pike love Megabass. Quote
CDobber Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 While the buzzbait has been my most successful lure all season, I am awaiting cooler temps bringing the bass in closer at my quarry. I am hopeful of finally getting some action out of my zaras and my pop-r. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted August 22, 2014 Author Super User Posted August 22, 2014 Curious what you think of the Strike King Spit-N-King Popper ? ...Decent price point and curious about the performance . Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted August 22, 2014 Super User Posted August 22, 2014 The top-water bite is already here! It never left! 1 Quote
adam lancia Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Zara Spook, Chug'n Spook, Super Spook Jr., a couple of Storm poppers and a Yo-Zuri Sashimi popper are on the menu but the top water bite has been great all summer here, especially in the mornings. Quote
ColdSVT Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I been throwing koppers frogs, sammies and a vixen all since may! The topwater bite has slowed here in PA as of late but i know it will come back with a vengeance soon! Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted August 22, 2014 Super User Posted August 22, 2014 Topwater bite has been good around here lately to me. I've been throwing torpedo's, skitter props, jitterbugs, and megabass pop x/pop max. Quote
Crankinstein Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I've been fishing the megabass pop x and pop max and the fish have been slamming it. As mentioned above the bass down south have been after the topwater bite for a while now. I'd also add that this has already been the best year for topwater I've ever had with several trips with 30+ fish on just topwater baits. Grab your favorite lure and hang on! Quote
MassBass Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I recieved my new spro shad in wicked perch. Can't wait to try it out and see how it walks. Also got a scumfrog bigfoot and have to try that. Quote
Bobby Uhrig Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Probably one of the best buzz baiting years I've ever had. Again I said it many times there are days I go out with the cavitron and throw it non stop for hours. The fall is really the time it produces the biggest fish of the year. Every year I catch some 6 plus pounders on mega bugs and jigs but as the water cools into the 60 "s the big girls are out and I get numbers and sizes. Throw it you will see Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted August 24, 2014 Super User Posted August 24, 2014 Topwater is always good here once the water is in the low 60s (usually mid april) and lasts through most of October. Just generally have to concentrate on the mornings, evenings, and cloudy days. Frogs will catch them all day though in the right areas and conditions. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 24, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 24, 2014 The top-water bite is already here! It never left! Same here, I've just opted to catch them fish other ways because that's how I'd rather catch them. The buzzbait bite has begun to pick up noticeably lately though. It's been a good summer for a frog oddly enough considering I can normally count the number of fish I catch on a frog each year on one hand. 1 Quote
