masterbass Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 What will upgrading the spool do for a t3 ballistic? What is the difference between the 1016 and sv1000 spool? Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 SV spools have a stronger braking profile, which makes them much easier to cast. They require little, to no, thumbing. The SV is also lighter and will pitch easier and cast lighter baits more efficiently. You give up distance for the ease of use. The 1016 is just a great all-around spool. It's slightly more wild than the SV, but hardly uncontrollable. If you're casting 1/2oz or up, it's the better choice, in my opinion. It's also the better choice if you want more distance. Either spool is an upgrade over the stock spool, though you're not going to see huge improvements. You'll be able to see the effects of the SV more so than the 1016, but that's because the 1016 is just a better version of the spool that's already in it. Quote

Would upgrading the bearings in this reel make noticable difference? Quote
Super User webertime Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 I have 2 Ballistics. One is stock. One has orange seals (abec 7) and an MX spool, which is supposed to be very similar to the 1016. BOTH have level wind and drive shaft bearings added. I swapped the spools back and forth between the two and found that obviously the upgraded reel casted better by about 15ft. Putting the MX spool in the stock reel had a 10ft increase over the stock spool. Spools make a much bigger difference in performance. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Thanks. Would upgrading the bearings in this reel make noticable difference? Even as a Boca Dealer, my advice is to always start by flushing and lightly oiling the stock bearings, Super Tune if applicable and if/when bearings are swapped, ABEC 5 ceramic hybrid, run dry are the best bang for the buck.
