Super User Montanaro Posted August 20, 2014 Super User Posted August 20, 2014 I'm looking for a sub $100 multitool for fishing with needlenose pliers. Gerber no longer makes the flik fisherman, the hook sharpener and braid cutters would have been nice. Anyone have any suggestions? Quote
Super User Marty Posted August 20, 2014 Super User Posted August 20, 2014 I would suggest doing a search on fishing multitool or fishing multi tool. I just tried it quickly and it looked like numerous results popped up, but I didn't pay close attention to them. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted August 21, 2014 Author Super User Posted August 21, 2014 I have on both accounts. Flik fishing tool runs over 100 on ebay and most tool suggestions are either discontinued or are not angling specific. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 Leatherman Surge... I have had mine for since it came out, maybe 10 years ago. Works great for everything except cutting braid. The scissors are razor sharp but tend to fray braided line. I have better luck with kid scissors. Quote
hatrix Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I don't know why some stuff has trouble with braid. I just bought a pair of Shimano split ring pliers that are basically needlenose. They are brand new and can't cut braid for the life of them but this super junk pair of needlenose I have been using for like 4 years that all rusted cut right though it. Quote
einscodek Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I LOVE my LEATHERMAN! I always go light and my multitool lets me do just that! Quote
ColdSVT Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I have a gerber multi with needle nose pliers. My line cutter however is a boomerang The gerber works good for most things and was like 50 bucks. I also carry a couple screw drivers and a select socket set for any boat issues Oddly enough i have a leatherman in my snowmobile lol Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 My Leatherman Wave has held up for a while, and the knives come razor sharp. I cut braid with it just fine. The belt pouch is a very handy addition as well. Quote
