Super User Raul Posted August 20, 2014 Super User Posted August 20, 2014 They are not bad but not the greatest, when you talk about jigs for starters you need to have perfectly sharp, top notch quality hooks. Of course, if you want quality then Siebert Outdoors is what you want. Quote
Eric Romines Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 I thought about buying it. But then again I figured I just get a couple of jigs in different colors. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 Haven't bought it, but I understand the attraction. FWIW, I've bought a few different kits from BPS; creature kit, finesse kit, stick-o kit and maybe one or two others. I consider every single one of those purchases to have been a mistake and never made it through more than a quarter of the options in the kit before getting other branded items that I considered far superior. Super User Choporoz Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 Siebert Outdoors I can almost promise that your same $37 at Siebert...maybe 7 jigs and some Rage trailers....will make you happier. But....I should have added to my last post....that I do still have (and use) all those 360 boxes from BPS Quote
Coherence Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I've used the BPS jig kits...they are mediocre at best. The skirt bands rot off quickly, they will get yanked off if a fish takes them, and the hooks are of middling quality. I used them for several months, but eventually started phasing them out as the skirt bands failed repeatedly and one of the hooks failed me. Can you catch fish with them? Absolutely. Are there better jigs out there for that same money? DEFINITELY Siebert does make some outstanding jigs, and I have begun shifting my entire jig collection towards only Sieberts - they are just phenomenal for the price honestly...I will throw nothing but Sieberts from now on Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 I know Mike from a long time ago and let me tell you, he isn´t going to get rich by making jigs n´stuff, he´s too passionate about doing things right because what you see, what you get from him is his idea of how he likes his stuff to be, and that costs money, if he were to make money on them jigs he wouldn´t sell them at those prices. Think about it when you see his products, who wants to work hours doing tons of manual labor for a few pennies of profit per item ? Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 I wouldn't waste my time with it. I would invest in two colors to begin jig fishing. Green Pumpkin Black and Blue Grab a few of those (Siebert Outdoors) and grab some complimentary Rage Craws and go to town. Everything else after this is a matter of experimentation. I build my own skirts. A ton of fun. 2 Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 When I decided I wanted to try my hand at jig fishing I contacted Mike at Siebert and just told him to send me $50 worth of jigs. He asked me some questions about the water I fished and then sent me my jigs Btw, I don't see anything in that bps kit I'd fish 1 Quote
ThurmanMerman Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Give Siebert Outdoors a try! Quality jigs, terminal tackle and other products. Personally, I wouldn't buy BPS jigs over Siebert's. I've had such great experiences with his jigs that I wouldn't look elsewhere. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted August 24, 2014 Super User Posted August 24, 2014 They are so so. Like others have said, go simple when it comes to jigs. I use only three colors: Green pumpkin, black/blue, and brown orange. Get jigs in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 ounce sizes. Then use a matching rage or paca chunk, and you will catch tons of fish. My favorite jigs are the pepper jigs from pepperjigs.com. A basic jig kit would cost you $40 to buy these three colors and a bag of trailers. Get some mend it to keep your trailers in good shape when they tear, and you will be set for a season. Augment your existing jigs with backups in case you lose them or they are damaged. But the pepper jigs are the best on the market IMO. Quote
