jaysen Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 theast i have been doing a lot of research. i hear that kaenon is becoming a strong force in the market but decided to get a pair of maui jims. their website isnt very clear on the lenses so i will ask the experts on this forum.i am used to using amber polarized lenses since i rarely fish blue water (does ny even have blue water?).which lens type would be best for fishing lakes, rivers, and saltwater bays of the northeast?what frames do people feel fit more comfortably? i tried on a few different pairs that were rather uncomfortable.i only want glass lenses and am told that maui jim doesnt use plastic or polymer lenses in any of their sunglasses, is this true?i would like a lens that can be used all day since i have sensitive eyes. i prefer not to have to buy 2 separate pairs for low and high light conditions (especially at their price). do any specific lenses fit this criteria?all help is appreciated. warpath58 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I have been using Maui Jims for years. I have several pairs of them Banyans is the name of the style I like the most, They are light weight and have good clarity, But I recently tried a pair of Costa Del Mar and they blow the Maui Jims away take a look at the Costa before you buy the Maui Jims. The Costas have great clarity and just seems to brighten up everything and it is unbelievable how deep I can see into the water they beat the Maui's by a good foot foot and a half. When you get ready to make your purchase ask to take them outside the store to compare the two brands together in the sun. The style of Costas I bought are the Cayan AY 50. I hope this helps Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted August 23, 2014 Super User Posted August 23, 2014 Maui uses glass, but have since moved to Keanan although they aren't glass. But Amber will work during both sunny and cloudy days. I tend to prefer gray, gives more of a natural color but I also do have amber lenses I use when it's really overcast. Water color has nothing to do with the color of the lens. The polarization takes the glare off so as far as sensitive eyes so both colors will keep your eyes from becoming fatigued. I can't wear anything that isn't polarized anymore without getting head aches from squinting. Working on the water I wouldn't be caught without a par of glasses. Costa's are also pretty nice. So before you get hung up on one brand, check a few out and see which frames you like and find comfortable. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted August 23, 2014 Super User Posted August 23, 2014 Btw, if you do get Kaenon's, don't use your shirt to clean them.....EVER. You will scratch them. Use a micro fiber lens cloth to clean them. And they do have great customer service. I've had to have 2 pair replaced....lenes issues once and had a frame warp from them sitting in the car and get hot. Quote
JDJ Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Glass MJs?? Yes they do make a few styles in glass but most are poly lenses like my MJ Banyans. Check the website for reliable info. Quote
