Super User WRB Posted August 18, 2014 Super User Posted August 18, 2014 Jackell's new surface lure is very similar to the old Heddon Crazy Crawler that also has a similar action to a Jitter Bug. These lures crawl across the water surface making lots splashes and noise like a buzz bait. The Pompadaour takes this surface action to a new level, the crawler blades are slightly cupped and through water like a buzzer, the tail end has a small prop that also throughs more water as the lure walks side to side action at very slow or higher speeds. This lure is about 3" long, very compact and weighs in at slightly over 1 1/2 oz and casts great into wind. If you are looking for a top water lure that appeals to bass of all sizes, including big bass, this is the real deal. Cost $23. Yes it's expensive! Tom Quote
1234567 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 When I first saw that lure I dismissed it as junk. I may have to look into it a bit more. Those blades or wings I am leary about as far as durability. Maybe someone who has used it can give their experience. Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 18, 2014 Author Super User Posted August 18, 2014 I have used this lure in bone white for about 2 weeks and caught several bass to date, the largest around 6 lbs., without any lure damage to date with original hooks. I using my MH swimbait rod, 7' 10" with 15 lb Big Game on a Cardiff 300. Tom PS, this lure has quietly been winning Clear Lake tournaments, it's a big bass lure. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted August 18, 2014 Super User Posted August 18, 2014 I've been checking this lure out for a couple months now, as it has been released in Japan for a while now, but the price tage is holding me back right now. As far as durability, Jackall makes top notch products, have not had one fail yet and I own MANY of them.. Quote

Tom Tom, not sure which model you have but I've been looking at 2 of them, a 3/4 oz version, and the JR which is 4 grams lighter, I have not seen the 1.5 oz version? Quote
1234567 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Ill get one....always looking to try something new. The bone color was the one that piqued my interest the most too. 1 Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted August 18, 2014 Super User Posted August 18, 2014 I cant find the white bone color anywhere?? Black bone, yes, but no white bone, where is it sold? Quote

Just re weighed the lure on my rod and it's 3/4 oz, forgot to deduct the box weight on the original weight! The black bone has a blue and chartreuse back and should be a good low light or night color, haven't tried it yet. Our bass are eating shad early and late in the day along weed edges. Tom Quote
IAY Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 How well does the Pompadour cast? I know there is a tungsten weight on the bottom, does that help quite a bit? Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 19, 2014 Author Super User Posted August 19, 2014 The lure is very aerodynamic, the wings fold back and it cast good. One reason I was using a MH swimbait rod was to get long casts to work a lot of water, then to keep the bigger bass from running under the weed line. Normally use my heavy crankbait rod, works good, you can make up to 40 yard cast, if needed. Casting distance is a big advantage verses a buzz bait. Tom Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 19, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 19, 2014 The Heddon Crazy Crawler's wings never gave me any problem, can't imagine this bait would be any different. It may be expensive but it's also a topwater so the chances of losing it are much lower. Quote
rchiuz Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 I have one coming in the mail and wondered what setup you think works best. I am still trying to decide what lb line and do I go with braid or mono. The lure is very aerodynamic, the wings fold back and it cast good. I posted a week or so ago asking if anyone has used this lure before, didn't get much response from people that have thrown it a lot. The action in the video looks awesome, but yes pricey. I was going to wait for TW Thanksgiving sale a pick one up. Quote

Tom Tom, I agree sweet bait, posted this a couple of weeks ago.... Posted October 16 2014 - 10:01 AM I have only had a chance to throw one for a very limited time. However I will tell you the action is very sweet you get the side to side action from the wings , the sputtering from the prop and the knocking from the ball inside all at once while moving water as well. I would tell you the Pompadour is a Crazy Crawler on steroids and then some, if you like fishing Topwater then go for one.... Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted October 28, 2014 Super User Posted October 28, 2014 I picked one up about 2 weeks ago. Haven't really fished topwater lately, but I guess I should try it out before the water turns to ice... Quote
