St.croix Jig Rod

I'm interested in trying a st.croix rod for 5/16 to 1/2 jigs. I'm thinking the legend elite 7' MH. but I'm wondering if it's too much for 5/16.  anyone have any thoughts ?

Are you fishing cover at all?

I live on table rock so mostly rock and some cedars but not what I would call heavy. The 5/16 I pitch boat stalls and walkways with.

IMO, 5/16 won't load that rod properly to cast very well.

Keep in mind that a 5/16 oz jig along with the skirt and trailer will weigh closer to 7/16..

I have that rod and use it for 3/8 oz jigs.  It performs perfectly for that weight with a regular craw trailer.  If I threw 5/16 jigs, that's the rod I would use.

I have the medium and use it for 3/8oz jigs, but with a heavy trailer it's pushing it a bit; though not to the point I feel uncomfortable. It has quite a bit of backbone. If you use 1/2+trailer, I'd probably use the medium-heavy, to be safe.

Anything 3/8 and above I prefer the MHF anything 3/8 and under i would use the MF Elite. If I only could have the one it would be the MHF, I agree with the others and think in those weights it is you best choice for everything but the 5/16, and that is borderline, with the MF you would be under powered working most of your mentioned jig's.  The 7'MHF is a sweet and very universal rod!!

I have a 7' MH/F LTB and it works great with 5/16oz finesse jigs.

I have the older MH/F extreme, same blank I believe, 5/16 and a trailer would work well.

Same here...mine has a lews TP on it and it works great...ive gone as low as 3/16ths with it
