JeziHogg Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I've got 1 or 2 of the 7:1 gear sets if anyone's interested. Are those compatible with the Chronarch E? Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Yes, they'll work in any of the current 50 size. I have to check later to verify whether they are right or left hand. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted August 18, 2014 Super User Posted August 18, 2014 Here's my suggestion. Buy a Curado 50e and get some core 7:1 gears and send it in for super tune and the works. Should still end up being cheaper than buying a core and from what I hear, should weigh around 6.7 oz with the lighter gears. I will be doing that for one of my Chronarch 51e this offseason. Read his last post. He got the core. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 18, 2014 Super User Posted August 18, 2014 wait a minute, the different color brakes weigh differently? Yup, they weight differently Nowdays I didn´t know how is the color chart but a few years ago there were green, smoke and pink, the reels came with a complete set of weights. Quote
dam0007 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Hey can someone elaborate the different colors further. Thanks Quote
dam0007 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Also, what is the Scorpion, the Chronarch E equal? This thread just got me interested in a jdm reel lol Quote

TrippyJai Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Thanks, So anti reverese is 100% on the one way bearing? And do you know the differences in the brake tabs? what each one is? The anti reverse bearing is a one way bearing. The anti reverse pawl is a back up in case the one way bearing fails. Most people take it off and the JDM reels don't have the pawl. People will claim it's smoother without the pawl. I keep it on all my reels, it's a tricky part to tweak. If you have it on too tight, it'll cause the reel to be sluggish and if you have it too loose then it'll hop over every hump on the ratchet and make that clicking noise people complain about. For the brake tabs, green is heaviest, then pink then clear/smoke are the lightest. I've not noticed a difference between the pink and smoke. I've always set 2/6 pink breaks for all my fishing conditions. When it blows like crazy during the Fall weather, change the casting style to a lower trajectory and tighten the spool tension knob a tad and if you still have issues with the wind then switch to a heavier bait. The old braking system really is a set and forget, I don't recall ever needing to change the tabs. I will however at the end of the season, pop 2 new tabs so they wear evenly. Quote

Awesome thanks for the info. I have bright orange, black and dark orange tabs between my Curados Citicas and Chronarchs. Im gonna order some sets and play around with it. never knew this. Edit* On all but 2 reels I only use 2 of the 6 brakes, 1 I use 4 the other none. I'm wondering if maybe just 2 light brakes and thats it not even put the other 4 on.Leave the tabs empty.. You ever try this? Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 Any particular reason on why not having them installed ? they are either "on" or "off" it makes a difference when they are on but not when they are off. Quote

I don't see why you would need to take them off, it's better to have and not need than to need and not have. Won't make much of a difference either. 1 Quote
iamham3 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I'm very interested in the Scorpion 1000 XT. Can anyone give me some insight as to the applications that this reel excels? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 25, 2014 Super User Posted August 25, 2014 I have the original 1000, not the XT. Mine is saddled on an Avid AVC66MF. This is my dedicated jerkbait rig. Quote
Hogsticker Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I use mine for jerks and rattle baits up to half ounce. Also shaky heads, weightless plastics, smallish spinner baits, and shallow light cranks Quote
dam0007 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 They have scorpion 200s available now look like the curado I but red. Quote
iamham3 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 They have scorpion 200s available now look like the curado I but red. I want something a lot different from what I currently have, which is why I'm looking hard at the Scorpion. As far as low profile baitcasters I use Pro Qualifiers and the Daiwa Tatula. Is the Scorpion 200 close in size to what I'm currently using? If so, I'm definitely going with the 1000 XT. Quote
iamham3 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 They have scorpion 200s available now look like the curado I but red I asked a question in my previous post, but I think I should have also asked what is/are the difference(s) between the Scorpion 1000 XT and the Scorpion 200? Quote

jonnyblazex Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Pink color brake collars came factory, they are the lightest weight, with least resistance. The green are heavier, and offer more resistance, may be better for larger heavier baits. The smoke, I'm not sure. May be the same as green, just come with a slightly newer model reel. If you bought a new shimano curado e or g series, I know they came with pink and un pretty sure it was green "spare" brake blocks in the box. I'll have to look at mine again, but I know for sure pink is what it comes with installed from the factory, and the other weights are heavier. Quote

Go to Japan Tackle's website and read the specs on both. I will warn you ahead of time, if you go there, you may find something that you want besides the Scorpions! Quote
Hogsticker Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Just looked in my XT box. It came with a spare set of clear tabs, and a spare set of gray tabs. Never noticed the gray tabs before Quote

Zimobass Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 On the older version reels the listing below is what has been posted by the Shimano rep on other sites. The newer reels with SVS that I have, have mostly red ones, and some come with optional lighter white brakes. Has anyone seen other colours ?
