Super User Crestliner2008 Posted August 16, 2014 Super User Posted August 16, 2014 Try drop shotting. Keeping an offering in their face for a long time is very effective. However, you have to have the patience for it too. Quote
einscodek Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I dont experience summer doldrums the big fish are still comin for me.. lots of guys are also catchin lots of summer bass.. Nowadays I mostly power fish with spinner baits and plastics.. sure finesse works work those plastics slow but if the fish aint there workin slow is just an exercise in wasting precious time. I'd say work power plastics and spinnerbaits til you find fish.. esp on a body of water unfamiliar to you.. then you can opt to finess worms if you like in that area where you know fish are holding. papajoe222 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 What you've been experiencing isn't a result of the dog days, it's a result of unstable and constantly changing weather. We've been experiencing the same difficulties where I am (just west of you). You can and probably should go smaller and slow down, but unless you're knocking them on the head on the cast, don't expect too many bites. This is why I don't downsize. I know I'm only going to get a couple of bites an hour and I want them to be strong bites, not just fish making a half hearted swipe at my lure. I will, however slow down to the point of dead sticking with a shakey head. The fish are still in the area where you've contacted them before, it's just that pinpointing them and then getting them to bite can be painstakingly difficult. If you're up to it, you can still get a few over the course of the day, but don't expect them to be active for any length of time until the weather stabilizes. Quote
