A trusted friend is selling a new in the box unopened Lowrance Elite 5 DSI fish locator for $250. They were $500 new. He decided he wanted something else. This model is 2 years old and has been discontinued. I was just going to buy a cheap $100 fish locator for depth for when I'm running fast. I've read good and bad reviews on this locator and it having problems not working right out of the box.

What do you think?

If it has the transducer, mounting bracket and cables, I would say go for it.

I bought a used head unit only (no ducer or cables) I'm pretty sure I paid over $250 for it.

It all depends on weather your a weekender or tournament guy.

For the weekend guy this would be a fine unit to start with. For the tourney guys it would be "good enough"

Either way it's a much better deal than a $100 unit.
